Quick easy cheap tasty cookies that kids can help make (Cakes)

Advantages: contains oats which are healthy, taste fab very quick and easy

Disadvantages: I eat them all which isn't good for me!

I have recently made cakes at work with children under 5 years and we were looking for a healthy quick and easy cake. We like to make things during the session with the children that they can later eat at snack. We made Cherry and oat cookies.

What you need...

250g/ 9oz Soft margarine
50g/2 oz Caster sugar
100g/ 3 1/2 oz light soft brown sugar
150g/ 5 1/2 oz self raising flour
225g/ 8 oz porridge oats
200g/ 7oz glazed cherries chopped
50g / 2 oz sultanas

What to do...

~Cream the margarine, caster sugar and brown sugar in a bowl

~Stir in flour and oats

~Mix it all together really well. It is to wet and sticky add some more oats

~Divide mixture up and roll into about 18 round balls then place on a baking tray

~Flatten the cookies with your hands make sure there is room for them to spread a little

~Bake for between 15 and 20 minutes at 180C/ gas mark 4 until golden brown be careful not to overcook. They should still feel soft to touch and they do not go very dark

~Cool on the baking tray for 5 minutes then eat they taste lovely warm.

These also last a while (if you do not eat them fast like me) These taste great you can leave out the sultanas and cherries or change for something else we have tried choc chips, nuts etc but cherries and sultanas taste the best

There are cheap quick and very easy as well as tasting great. perfect to make with children.
