Advantages: Quick, cheap and tasty

Disadvantages: None

Long, long ago, way before the credit crunch, I was once a student. Although I cannot remember much of my time there, I do remember that money was tight, after you removed my drinking budget (oh yeah, and I had to buy books and junk.). So, I learned quickly how to eat well, and cheaply. The following is one recipe that I would still eat now.

Now, I say recipe, but remember I was a student and as such I did not measure anything. To be honest I still don't, so you may have to tweak this slightly to your own taste.

.......................here's what you will need................................

A few mushrooms

A tin of tuna in sunflower oil, whatever is cheapest

Two tin's of campbell's condensed cream of mushroom soup

A tin of sweetcorn

A packet of ready-made puff pastry

...........................here's what you do.....................................

Take Out the tins, and open them. Drain the oil off the tuna, and the watery stuff from the sweetcorn. Place in a bowl, and stir around a bit, until evenly mixed.

Take your mushrooms, quarter them and add them to the bowl. Give it another little stir.

Empty the two tins of mushroom soup, and mix into the bowl. Et, voila, you now have your filling!!

Place the mixture into an oven ready bowl, making sure it is evenly spread.

Take your pastry, and roll out. Place over the top of the bowl, and cut around the edge of bowl to form your 'lid'.

Place in the oven. The beauty is that the ingredients do not need to be 'cooked', just heated. So that means that it is ready as soon as the pastry is cooked.

..........................so what's it like then?...............................

Cheap, cheerful and tasty. Whack a few chips on the side and it is a great meal. The soup must be campbell's as it is used condensed, which gives you a really thick sauce to the pie. Preparation is easy, and quick. You can have this ready for the oven in five minutes, and cooked in under thirty. All in this costs about £2.50, and can easily feed two hungry people.

As you can see, I am no Jamie Oliver. I don't know the name for things, or the terms used in cooking. But I do think that this is an easy recipe, and one that is both filling, and also quick enough to still allow you to go out to the pub after. A winner all round!

Summary: Great for students, or for the lazy (like me!).
