Advantages: Cheap, easy, filling, 1 of your 5 a day?
Disadvantages: Very high in calories!
Great way to make a filling, indulgent pud with the leftovers in the cupboard.
Very simple, get one of those crusty loaves that look like a giant slug, slice into rough slices/chunks and arrange in a oven proof dish so they roughly stand upright/at 45 degrees ish, not stacked on top of one another like a sandwich. Core 2 apples and slice, and tuck the apples in between the bread slices. Snap up about 75-100g of chocolate, I like a mix of dark and white but your call, and slot this in between the slices too. In a pan mix a pot of elmlea (or real cream, elmlea is lower in fat though) which is 287ml i think, with the same amount of milk, and add 75g of dark chocolate. stir until the chocolate is melted into the milky mixture and pour over the bread. Leave to soak for a minimum of an hour but up to 12 hours. Shove (technical term) in the oven at 180C for 20-25mins until its a bit golden on top. Serve with cream or ice cream. watch hips grow. Also works with pears, plums, blackberries, any kind of fairly low water tree-grown fruit really. Will serve 4-6.
Summary: One of my favourite puds
