Eggs in General
Advantages: Lots of Possibilities
Disadvantages: Not Free Range - Poor Chickens!
Eggs are a very versatile food and you can cook them in almost any way to get a different kind and also add eggs into other foods to make them better. As we are all aware, eggs that are not free range come from chickens that have terrible living conditions and are not given much freedom. However, for a pack of 15 eggs for approximately £1.50, you really do get tempted...thats like 10p per egg! I was tempted and decided to try these. Probably not morally correct but hey I need to watch my pennies!
These eggs are medium sized and to me an egg is an egg. It doesnt taste better if it free range. The eggs still come with the egg white and the yolk! Below are some ways I like to cook my eggs:
My favourite way to cook an egg. I like plain omlettes with a pinch of salt but also like them with a mixture of mushrooms, cheese, onions, ham, tomatoes, peppers, bacon and spring onions. Omlettes are so easy to make and taste great!
This is a great egg to have on buttered toast with a pinch of salt and pepper. An absolute treat!
This egg is apparently the healthiest way to have your eggs! However as you need to crack the egg into a pan of hot water and wait for it to boil, the egg can sometimes move and you dont always (or for me ever) get a perfect poached egg. I love to have this egg on buttered toast with salt and pepper and even sometimes with baked beans to make it even better! This is a tricky egg to make but you can buy molds for poached eggs, but I dont think they look as good.
This egg in my opinion is the easiest way to make an egg. Simply boil your water and place your egg in. Depending on how cooked you want your egg, thats how long you boil it for. For example if you want a runny egg.. just boil it for about 3 minutes for a fully boiled egg, I recommend 6 minutes. I always prefer my eggs hard boiled but from time to time I will have a runny egg for some boiled egg and soldiers.
In Cakes and pastries
Eggs are an abolsutely essential ingredient for make cakes and pastries. Without the egg, Im sure it wouldnt taste the same or have the same texture. Eggs are good for glossing foods with also to give them a good texture. They can be good for making things stick also, such as spring rolls.
This is something my mum makes, which is a really nice and slippery egg! You simply beat an egg into a flat-ish dish and add some water. Place it into a steamer for about 15 minutes and you have a very nice but strange egg! I dont think this is a very usual egg kind as I had only heard of it when my mum made me it. Its tasty!
Overall the amazing egg is absolutely brilliant and Im sorry that I didnt buy free range but opted for the lesser expensive for my own benefit. The things you can do with eggs are endless and for that price, I was definitely tempted and had to give in. When I can afford to buy free range I will, but until then I will have to continue to buy these eggs.
