Premium Review Healthy Recipes: The healthiest and most delicious breakfast and how to make ... (490 words)
by - written on 25/03/08 (Very useful, 59 readings)
Rating:

For a fantastic breakfast that also makes a great snack at any time, and is very very healthy indeed, combining fresh fruit, dried fruit, seeds and yogurt, read on. It's a sort of fresh granola. You need a decent sized container, about three litres, and ideally one which can be sealed. Take 500g of raisins, 500g of sultanas, 500g of currants and mix them together. Put 500g of sunflower seeds and 250 g of pumpkin seeds into a processor and whizz them around until the bits are like extra large grains of sugar, i.e. about 2mm cubed. This releases the flavour and helps to integrate everything. Chop up 500g of dried apricots quite small, with each ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Healthy Recipes: Orange and Chilli Glazed Scallops (438 words)
by - written on 02/12/07 (Very useful, 110 readings)
Rating:

I love scallops! I found this recipe when I searched the net for a decent recipe about a year ago. I was on a diet and I went to Asda, i was in the reduced section and they had packs of scallops reduced to something silly like 30p a huge pack! I'd never had them before so I bought all the packs and froze them. First time I fried them with butter and garlic and I nearly spewed my guts up, wow they were rough. I told my mate (who is a chef and landlady) and she said your cooking them all wrong. Try cooking them more delicately! So I hunted down a few recipes and this was by far my favorite. This is out of my own personal cookbook and I've adapted it ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Cheap & Cheerful Chilli (plus guacamole recipie) (447 words)
by - written on 23/11/07 (Very useful, 149 readings)
Rating:

This chilli is just the thing for cold winter evenings. I often serve it with fluffy jacket potatoes & sour cream/guaccamole on top, or you could enjoy a bowlful on its own. It's also very cheap, nutritious and simple to make - a great recipie for studnets, or people who aren't very confidnet at cooking. This recipie makes a saucepan-full, which be about 4 regular portions. Preperation & Cook time - about 45 minutes Ingredients - 2 small red onions 2 cloves garlic 1 bag mince (I use Quorn mince: you could use lamb mince, but my cooking instructions are for Quorn, so adjust cooking times accordingly for real ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Healthy Recipes: Healthy winter soup - and a great way to eat cabbage! (391 words)
by - written on 22/01/08 (Very useful, 89 readings)
Rating:

Winter Soup I get a veggie box delivered each week, and this time of year, I tend to get a lot of cabbage. When I was a kid, I hated this vegetable, remembering soggy, tasteless piles of it heaped on my plate, all of which had to disappear before I could leave the table. Organic cabbage, however, is much nicer - full of peppery flavour and with a more robust structure so it doesn't transform into slop on a plate when cooked. Despite the fact that this has a lot of winter veg in it, it's really quite a light and fragrant soup, thanks to the bay leaves and the fennel. And great for dieters! I adapted it from a recipe in River Cottage: ...  Read the complete review
