Do You Fancy A Black Russian?
Member Name: janharper
Advantages: Looks sophisticated but quick and easy to make.
Disadvantages: This cocktail makes you drunk and gives you a headache.
Black Russian sounds like some kind of rare butterfly, or tobacco blend for pipe smokers, but it's not. It a velvety smooth, very alcoholic cocktail drink.
You don't have to go all the way to Moscow to get the required ingredients . A trip to Morrison's, or Tesco's will suffice.
Good quality Russian vodka has most impact but cheap supermarket's own brand will suffice. It doesn't really matter if it's the cheap paint stripper kind because you are going to mix it with other ingredients.
This is a coffee flavoured liqueur. You can use Kalhua instead if you prefer the sweeter taste.
Personally I find Kalhua a bit 'sticky' in the mouth so I prefer Tia Maria.
Use ordinary plain, original Coke, not Cherry Coke, or any of the other variation . Supermarkets own Coke, or Pepsi doesn't work as well as it doesn't have the flavour.
This makes it look good but it isn't really essential.
Swizzle stick for stirring. (Spoon will do if you aren't that posh!)
Fill the glass a quarter of the way up with vodka.
Add Tia Maria, or Kalhua, up to the half way mark.
Fill up with Coca Cola.
Take your lemon slice, make a cut in it to form a slot and slide it onto the side of the glass.
Top with a black umbrella.
This looks amazing and very sophisticated but it also tastes good. You don't need many of these because the combination of liqueur and cocktail is very strong.
Summary: Easy to make cocktail to impress your friends, or treat yourself but me careful, it's strong.
