Advantages: Warm you up on a cold day
Disadvantages: None
As i'm writing this review about hot drinks, I'm looking outside and the last thing I want on a warm sunny day is a hot drink! But when I think a bit more deeply the idea of hot drinks on cold days really brings a smile to my face. When you've been outside in the cold, there is nothing better than sitting down on a comfy sofa with a nice hot drink! So I have collated a few of my receipes that I use and would like to share them with you!
My Italian Hot Chocolate
Everyone likes hot chocolate, lets face it! It's generally drunk as a warming, treatful drink which tastes absolutely great! I quite like supermarket hot chocolates but I like to make my own as it's really easy and simple!
Ingredients:-
5 tablespoons cocoa powder
2 tablespoons sugar
6 ounces dark chocolate, finely chopped (at least 70% cacao solids)
2 cups milk
Directions:-
1. In a small saucepan over low heat, add the cocoa powder, sugar, and 2 tablespoons of the milk,
2.Heat until the sugar melts and no lumps remain, stirring well.
3. Bring to a low boil, stirring constantly; add the remaining milk.
4. Turn off the heat, add the chopped chocolate, stirring until smooth.
Irish Coffee with a Vanilla Twist
I love Irish coffee and will no doubt always have one if I have had a meal out, it's nice to have something warm and soothing with a good kick! They are also great for colds!
Ingredients
1 cup black coffee
2 tablespoons Irish whiskey
1 teaspoon confectioners' sugar
1/4 vanilla pod, seeds scraped
2 tablespoons heavy cream
Directions
1. Brew the coffee stir in all the other ingredients, topping with the cream last.
Sweetpea's Latte (with cinnamon and caramel)
This is my signature hot drink! Even if I do say so myself! Whenever I have friends round I always end my night with this drink. Fortunately this isn't just a drink for winter evenings, it's great all year round!
Ingredients:-
3/4 cup hot espresso
1/2 cup half-and-half
2 teaspoons caramel syrup
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon syrup
whipped cream (optional)
cinnamon stick (optional)
Directions
1. In a serving glass or mug, combine hot espresso, half-and-half, caramel syrup and cinnamon syrup.
2. Stir gently to combine.
3.Garnish with whipped cream and cinnamon stick, if desired.
4.Serve immediately
My Mother's Hot Toddy
Now if you have read my Lush Hot Toddy Bubble Bar review you will know exactly what a Hot Toddy is! My mother makes this drink around Christmas time and I love it, it brings back alot of wonderful memories and I'm very grateful that she has finally passed this receipe onto me!
Ingredients
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1 1/2 ounces cognac
hot brewed black tea
1 lemon slice, studded with
3 whole cloves
Directions
1. Add the brown sugar and cognac to an Irish coffee glass or mug; stir to partially dissolve the sugar.
2. Fill the mug with the hot tea, stirring to combine.
3.Garnish with the clove-studded lemon slice; serve immediately
All the above receipes have ingredients that you can pick up from a supermarket with ease. There is nothing special, most ingredients will already no doubt be in your cupboards!!
Hope you enjoy them as much as I do and now after all of that writing I really could do with a nice hot cup of tea!!
Summary: A good selection of hot drinks for all occasions
