Advantages: Quick, cheap and easy, good for students
Disadvantages: None
Sausage suprise is my favourite recipe of all time, i cherished it as a student for its simplicity and still pull it out the bag when i cook for freinds as it doesnt look half as cheap as it is!! It is basically a tomato and sausage rissoto.
Serves: 2-3
Cost: £3-£4 (depending on quality of sausages)
You will need:
1 tin of chopped tomatoes (with or without herbs)
1 large Onion
2 cloves of garlic
6 sausages (up yo you what sort)
3 oxo cubes
2 tablespoons of tomato puree
1 pint boiling water
3/4 of a mug of uncooked plain rice
and
strong cheddar cheese for the topping - as much as you like
Method:
Thinly chop the onion and garlic and set to one side.
fry the sausages in the oil in a large high sided frying pan or wok until they are fully cooked (7-10 mins) and set to one side.
Add more oil if required and fry the onion and garlic until they turn soft and clear.
Crumble the oxo cubes into a measuring jug, add the boiling water and stir until disolved then pour the mixture along with the chopped tomatos into the pan with the onions. Give it all a quick stir and turn the heat up on the hob to full blast. Add the rice, tomato puree and cooked sausages and stir a little bit more, bring to the boil.
Once boiling reduce to a low heat (gas mark 1 or 2) and cover with a lid, cook for 20-25 mins stiring and recovering every 5-10 mins until the rice is cooked through.
Serve, being careful to make sure everyone gets the same ammount of sauasages.
Grate the cheese on top.
I hope you enjoy my recipe...................
Summary: So easy, come on you students!!!!
