I've done a few stews with Tesco Value stewing meat and they've all come out good so I thought I'd try a pack of their frying steak, the pack I got had 3 steaks and cost about £2.98.

There wasn't a mad amount of fat on them, no more than you get on the outside of any other steak that you pay more for. I cut most of it off anyway and I also banged them with a rolling pin to get the steaks to an equal thickness. I did 1 in the griddle and 1 in a frying pan with a bit of oil.

The steak on the griddle cooked through nice but went proper dry, you got a nice meaty taste out of it but it didn't taste much like proper steak. It's just cheap beef cut into steak shapes when it's this cheap because you're not going to get sirloin steak for Tesco Value price! lol

It doesn't fry all that quick and what it means by that is that you want to have the oil already hot and the flame high to cook the steak, it's a cheap cut so obviously that's the best way to cook this steak. You have to do this one well done because if you leave it a bit bloody in the middle it's just mega tough and you won't be able to chew it properly.

It's exactly what you think it's going to be, for that price you're not going to get a top quality steak and that's obvious. It can be cooked nice though and like I said even though you know it's not mega high quality it's still tasty enough. I'd rather have a nice rump steak myself but the cash doesn't always stretch to it and this is a nice change, I reckon it would go nice on the bbq as well and you can add garlic and stuff while you're frying it to make it taste a bit different.
