A potato is a vegetable that is grown in large fields and is eaten cooked with or without the skin. Humans have eaten potatoes since 200BC. Methods of cooking can be boiling, baking, frying, steaming and many more. The potato is a very filling and healthy food that is probably one of the most versatile foods on earth.
The Potato Nutritiously-
Potatoes are classed as a carbohydrate and contain large amounts of Iron, Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, Fibre and Potassium. They are a low fat food (depending on how cooked) and contain approx 110 kcals per medium sized potato.
Potatoes are part of the British staple diet and are most commonly eaten as mash, baked potatoes, chips or the traditional Sunday roast potato.
There are many varieties and brands of potato around.

The price of potato is generally very cheap but can depend on the variety you pick and the time of year. You can generally pick up a 5lb bag of potatoes for around a £1
Some of my favourite Potato dishes (not much of a cook!)-
Nothing beats a healthy Oven Baked Potato
Suitable as a small meal or snack or an accompaniment to a main meal
Scrub a large potato until the skin is clean, prick all over with a fork, make a cross shape on the top of the potato with a knife, add a knob of butter and a pinch of salt, cover in tin foil and bake in a hot oven (160c) for approx 2 hours.
Add any topping you like, baked beans, cheese coleslaw chilli.
A great summer side dish that is nice with barbecues or salads.
Peel and boil good quality potatoes for approx 20mins
Allow to cool and cut into small chunks
Add finely chopped onions and spring onions, mayonnaise, paprika, salt and pepper and voile. A lovely dish
Cheese and Onion Mash
Peel and boil potatoes for around 30 mins and mash thoroughly with a potato masher. Add some salt and pepper, chopped spring onion, grated cheddar cheese and a knob of butter. Mix and mash together well. Lovely
