Advantages: quick, simple, tasty
Disadvantages: none
Reason to buy ……………… Being a busy mum of three darling little girls you may understand that I don’t really get much chance to spend in the kitchen, and if the truth be told I don’t really want to spend much time in the kitchen. So yesterday when I saw Homeprides new advertisement for their new Pasta bake sauces I saw this as a brilliant idea for a nourishing meal for my family with very little effort. Where to buy …………….. So last night off we went to Tesco to do a bit of shopping and to keep an eye open for these wonderful new sauces. It did’nt take too long to find as they had an end of aisle shelf dedicated to this new sauce. I did throw my receipt away so cant remember the exact price, but I do know it was somewhere around the one pound mark. Varieties ………… There were around 5 different varieties to choose from, so there is bound to be something for all tastes. I decided to choose the spicy tomato and pepperoni flavour and my husband favoured the cheese and bacon, so we decided to take both and test them both out. Preparing ………… All you need is… Cold water 200g of pasta per jar oven proof dish 100g of cheese per jar and of course pre heat your oven to 200 degree Celsius So as you can see it is extremely simple. Cooking ……….. After switching on my oven to 200 degree’s I got all my things out so that the oven would have chance to heat up. I got my two oven proof dishes out and poured in 200g of dried pasta in and poured the sauce over the top, then filled the jar up to the label with water, poured into the dish and stirred it all up and placed it in the oven. As you can see very simple to do, and all these easy step by step instructions are printed
out clearly on the label. The pasta goes in the oven then for 20minutes. While this is cooking I grated 100grams of cheese for each dish. After 20minutes I took a cloth and took the dishes out of the oven, gave them a good stir and poured the grated cheese over the top and placed them back in the oven for a further 25 minutes. Taste challenge ………………. I didn’t have a side dish for this meal as I had cooked both jars of sauces and their was also 400grams of pasta, so for 2 adults and three young children it was plenty. But if I had only had the one jar I would have served it with a salad I split the plates in two so to speak and placed some of each of the pasta dishes on to each side for us to sample. The amount we had from the two jars was more than enough for us, and it tasted absolutely gorgeous, definitely a meal we will be having again. The cheese and bacon one which I didn’t really fancy was really nice, loads of flavour of the cheese, and a slight hint of the bacon which was good, there were only a few tiny chunks of bacon in so this is probably the reason. The Tomato and pepperoni one was just like eating a cross between spaghetti bolognaise and pizza, especially with having the cheese grated on top. Their were penny sized slices of pepperoni in too, and they didn’t skimp on it either. At the end of the meal I really couldn’t choose between them. This is a meal my children all enjoyed too so this is a bonus as my children can be very hard to please. Each child favoured one or the other but enjoyed both, I’m not really sure whether we will be trying the other flavours but will definitely be buying these flavours again. The real bonus of it all is that there is very little to wash up at the end.

- 28/02/03 I'm absolutely addicted to the 'plain' tomato one - so easy to make, and it tastes lovely cold for lunch the next day :) |

- 06/02/03 Sounds tasty. Even easier and cheaper: cook the pasta, stick the jar of sauce in the microwave, pour over and eat. |
