Advantages: Easy to make, cheap, filling and enjoyable

Disadvantages: None

This is my fave sandwich, it's very easy to make but has a little twist to it so for me makes it so much more enjoyable.
It is cheap to make as you don't always need the premium ranges of the ingrediants. I like very strong chedder and find the best one is what was origninally a cheap cooking cheese, now more commenly known as farmhouse mature chedder.
You can adapt it however you want, different type of bread, meat or cheese add sauces or veg ie tomatoe.

~What you need~

2 slices of white bread
Ham
Strong chedder cheese

Now here is the twist, it is not a cold sandwich.

Put the two slices of bread under the grill until warm with very little colouration and then turn over. Now place a slice of ham on each slice.
Leave under the grill until the ham begins to shrivel up. I like it when the edges actually go crispy.
Now put a few slices of cheese on top of the ham. Leave under the grill until melted. I like just as the cheese has melted so that it is soft and runny rather then crispy.
Take out of the grill, place together to make the sandwich and then cut in half
Sometimes I will add mustard to the cheese but more so when it is not a strong chedder.
I find this to be a rather filling snack so eat it when I know that I will be out for a long time and don't want to spend the day snacking or stopping for food every so often.
It is very different to a toasted sandwich as the bread is only slightly toasted and is not sealed.
I also enjoy it as a comfort food or when I'm having a lazy tea and I'm only cooking for myself I'll have it with a steaming hot bowl of lovely tomatoe soup.
Try it, you'll enjoy it.

Summary: An easy to make snack that is cheap and cheerful

Great idea, we do this with croissants too, especially if they have become a tad stale...Sue
