To set the scene for this review I will begin by telling you that hubby is an IT consultant and regularly works away. When he first started this new type of life one of the things that he bought was a small fridge so that he could keep fresh food cool as he transported it and keep milk in his room at a hotel without it going off. Sadly the original fridge passed away at the end of last year - probably due to overwork it had definitely given us both value for money!
Since the old fridge was such a useful thing to have we decided to buy a new one straight away and began to research what was out there. The one that we eventually decided upon was the 20 litre Black Mini Cooler from Argos. We looked at the really small ones but decided that they wouldn't really be good enough for what we wanted.
This fridge cost £69.99 from our local Argos store although we both had some points on our Nectar cards and got £15 off so that helped. The fridge comes in a sturdy box so it can be safely transported home and there is an instruction leaflet enclosed although it is hardly needed really!
The fridge looks really smart with its black gloss finish and silver coloured door handle. There is also a strong carrying handle on the top which folds flat when not in use. There are two leads supplied -one is an AC connector to connect the fridge to the mains in the house and the other is a DC connector to use in the car. This means that the fridge can be kept running during the car journey which has proved really useful, especially when Dave has had to travel from North Wales up to Scotland.
One of the big things that we noticed straight away with this fridge is that it is really quiet when it is running - the old one was very noisy and used to be a bit of a problem in a hotel room as it kept waking us up!
The fridge is 45.3cm tall by 32cm wide and 34cm deep. The door opens by means of a sliver coloured handle set in the left hand edge and you just have to grip it and pull it forward unclipping it. When you close the door you must make sure that it is clipped back in place to provide the seal. Inside there are two removable shelves in the door for milk, bottles etc. and a further removable shelf inside separating the internal space into two sections.
Dave uses the fridge for taking home made sandwiches and desserts when he stays for a couple of days in a hotel. He also uses it for taking some fresh food with him when he is renting a flat for a longer contract.
We have used the fridge when we have been away overnight to keep milk and drinks cool and also for bringing fresh food home with us when we have been away. It is also a great extra fridge to have in the house when we have visitors and at Christmas. As there is only the two of us we didn't buy a huge fridge in the kitchen so this is really helpful as an extra bit of cool space occasionally.
We have found that, whatever we have used the fridge for, it has worked well and all the food has been kept cool and fresh without exception.
The other good thing about it being portable is that you could take it when you go for a picnic or use it at your bar-b-que. Obviously the weight of the fridge to carry would depend on what you have put inside it!
To clean the fridge you just need to wipe the inside with a damp cloth - it is that easy.
I would definitely recommend this fridge for all the uses that I have described above. It is smart and classy, it is quiet, it is equally at home in the house or the car and it works! In fact it is worth its weight in gold!
And now it has my 100th crown - thank you guys!
