Around six months ago my fridge started to feel quite warm at times inside and this was worrying considering the food and milk I keep in there for my daughter so I immediately had to try and sort a new one out. Being a single mum money is quite tight at times and I didn't have a lot of money to go out and buy a fantastic fridge so I looked at Argos and came across a value range one which seemed ok and was within my price range so I ordered one but was a little worried about the length of time it would take to be delivered. Luckily my dad is pretty handy and managed to "fix" my current fridge short term while I waited for my new one. However, Argos managed to deliver the new fridge just 48 hours after ordering which was great!
The fridge is an undercounter one which isn't really ideal for my kitchen as I have no spare counter to put it under so it is left freestanding but along with the freezer by the side it looks ok. The fridge is quite a basic one which you would expect for a value one, inside you will find two spacious shelves and a reasonably sized drawer at the bottom. On the inside of the door you will find two bottle racks and a tray at the top. There is also a small freezer compartment at the top of the fridge.
When the fridge was delivered, there was the usual new plastic smell that you get with appliances, but I just placed some fridge fresheners in there and within a few days the smell was completely gone thankfully. The door opens from right to left which took a bit of getting used to as my old fridge opened the opposite way so there was quite a few days initially of pulling the wrong side of the door and wondering why it was stuck!! As there is only myself and my daughter in our house this fridge is pretty much a perfect size for us and the things we need to keep in there but I would imagine for a bigger family it would be a struggle to keep a great deal of food in there. The bottle holder in the door would hold around four milk bottles I would imagine, but I buy the large plastic bottles as my daughter drinks so much of it and it does fit but it is a tight fit! The drawer at the bottom holds a decent amount of food and I tend to put salad or fruit in there and as it is see through it is easy to see what you have at a glance.
The freezer compartment is really very small and to be honest I just tend to use if for ice cubes and use my freezer for my food. I would say that you would be able to fit a small amount of food in there, small boxes of food such as pizza, waffles and the like will fit.
The fridge is extremely easy to clean with no small nooks or cranny's to try and get into, and as with all glass shelves any dirt shows up easily so a quick wipe over with kitchen spray works a treat! I am happy to say that this is a really quiet fridge as my last one used to drive me mad with the constant humming from it, but I rarely hear a sound from this.
The energy efficiency rating for this fridge is A which means it is an economical fridge. The price of the fridge is currently £119.94 plus delivery charges.
If you are looking to purchase this fridge, the size is:
Size H84, W48, D50cm
I would happily recommend this fridge to small families or maybe students, but like I say I think a big famliy would struggle. Once turned on, you should allow 24 hours before putting any food in to ensure it is the correct temperature. All in all I am really happy with this little fridge, it is really handy and just perfect for us. Six months down the line the fridge is still in perfect condition and working fine which is fantastic as I did worry that a value appliance may not last for long.
Thank you for reading my review.
As recently as a week ago I have had a new kitchen installed with the addition of a fridgefreezer and this very handy extra firdge space in the form of the Argos Value Undercounter Fridge. In brief the fridge has a chilled capacity of 80 litres, with a top freezer compartment holding 10 litres. Complete with an energy efficiency rating of 'A' and a pricetag of just £99.95 it makes for a very appealing product from the outset for those looking for a fridge with limited space or as additional storage area for chilled goods.
The design of the fridge is very simple and typical of this type of product. With a plain white door it doesn't offer anything out of the ordinary. Inside there are two shelves which are adjustable and the freezer compartment is at the very top of the unit. Inside the door there are two storage shelves for holding bottles, and at the bottom of the fridge is a storage box for vegetables and other products you may wish to store at the foot of your fridge. There is a temperature control on the fridge which is manually adjustable. The fridge measures 84cm x 48cm x 50cm and is therefore suitable for smaller spaces and also smaller households.
I use the fridge as an additional storage space, and although the freezer compartment is quite limited this is expected of such a small fridge. The chiller area is roomy enough to store a good amount of food. At this price I would find it hard to find a better for value fridge. I could spend twice the money but I certainly would be surprised if I could buy a twice better fridge for this. I therefore must award 5 stars for this fridge. The space within the fridge is obviously a negative, but this could also be seen as a selling point. A great fridge for someone looking for extra space or those living alone.
I got this undercounter fridge when I moved to a small unfurnished flat and it suited my needs perfectly well. It cost me at the time more or less the price that they're asking for it now (£119.94 ). For a bit more I could have gone for something bigger but I had a space under the counter to fill in and I didn't want a big monster in my tiny kitchen.
It's got a freezer compartment, which is always useful, but naturally, don't expect to be able to fit a lot there. Maybe a bag of frozen chips and one or two boxes of burgers. It also has a compartment for salad and a bottle rack in the door.
When I bought it, it had a bit of a funny smell (plastic) but fortunately it went away after one day or two.
I had to sell it when I moved out of the flat, as I wouldn't need it anymore. Therefore I only had it for one year. During that period I had absolutely no problem with it though. It was exactly what I wanted, it had all the basic requirements and it was delivered by Argos in excellent condition.
It might not be the best quality that you can get, but it surely does the job for you if you live alone in a restricted space.
