Advantages: Nice design, good price
Disadvantages: Nothing so far
I've been saving up for frost free freezer for about three months and have finally bought the one of my choice, after carefully looking around all the electrical shops in town I finally chose to buy from Curry's and the Daewoo ERF384M was the one I chose to buy.
The first thing that swayed my choice was the fact that it was a frost free freezer, I think it’s a pain in the bum having to defrost the freezer every so often , the second thing that made me buy this one was the price. At £299.99 and delivered for an extra £5 I thought this was the better buy than the one’s that were a bit more pricey or the one’s that were cheaper.
I took my daughter with me to choose the fridge freezer as we like to go shopping together and she is quite good at spotting a bargain, we looked at all the different designs and colours of fridge freezers and even though we did want a silver one, this Daewoo in white was about £50 cheaper than in silver so we bought it.
The shop delivered the next day and unpacked it for us, now you have to leave the fridge freezer unplugged for at least 2 hours before connecting it to the mains and it has to be switched on for at least three to four hours before you can put food in it.
So, whilst it was waiting the required time to be used, I wiped it over to get any dust off which it might have collected in the store room of the warehouse it came from.
The fridge freezer stands about 6 feet high and has two doors, the freezer is at the bottom and the fridge is at the top. When you open the doors you will see the shelves inside, there are three shelves which can be moved up or down into the grooves provided. At the bottom of the three shelves are two white plastic vegetable drawers with lids, these slid easily in and out underneath the bottom shelf in the refrigerator. At the bottom in the freezer compartment you will see there are three plastic sliding drawers for the freezing of food. There is also a small shelf at the top of the freezer compartment for freezing the ice cubes and ice pops.
The interior of the refrigerator has a light which turns on when you open the door and off again when you close it. There is multi air flow and a temperature knob for the compartments. This can be set from high to low depending on how you choose, I keep mine on low so that it ticks over without using a lot of electricity and at this temperature the food freezes nicely over night.
In the top half of the fridge compartment there is also a butter pocket, a place which fits eggs into it and a bottle tray for the storing of juices. At the bottom of the door there is a place to keep the milk and cartons of juice, this has a sliding plastic section which can be moved to fit the milk tightly inside.
When you have plugged in your fridge freezer you then have to make sure it’s nice and level, this can be done by turning the left foot at the front of the fridge freezer until you can see that it is level.
You have to make sure that there is a gap of about 45mm from the back of the fridge freezer and the wall, this is so that it doesn’t vibrate and make more noise than it should, it also helps to keep the electricity usage down.
Once you have cleaned, levelled and positioned the fridge freezer in the right place it is then ready to store your food.
Milk and juices, butter, eggs and cheese go in the compartments in the fridge door. Fresh food goes at the top of the fridge and uncooked meats at on the bottom shelf. Salads and vegetables go in the drawers at the bottom of the fridge and cooked and frozen foods then go in the freezer at the bottom.
Do not [place this fridge freezer next to radiators and keep dry and well ventilated. You have to disconnect the supply of electricity before giving this a good clean, do not use abrasives and only use a damp cloth with luke warm water.
Make sure you pack your own frozen food in bags and label them with the date, as there is a time limit on certain food which have to be eaten within the time stated on the inside front of the freezer door. Store the same foods together in the same freezer drawer. Meat goes in one, fish in another, dairy foods in another.
Make sure all packages are alright before you put them in the freezer. And once food is defrosted you have to eat it within 24 hours.
This fridge freezer has definitely made my life easier, I like the design and it’s a lot quieter than the chest freezer I had before. I can now see which food is in the freezer as it is neatly stored in a drawer, instead of having to dig my way to the bottom of an old freezer chest and forget about things I have put in there months before.
It’s easy to clean and only costs a few pence a day and night to run.
If your looking for a frost free fridge freezer then this one is well worth considering.
