Hotpoint RFA52S Fridge Freezer - Silver and Sturdy
Member Name: Gemma_C
Advantages: Not too big and is spacious enough for 2 of us. Doesn't make much noise.
Disadvantages: Some small niggles but nothing too big.
The size of this Fridge Freezer is 174.0cm inn heigh and 54cm in width with a depth of 56.5cm making this a good sized fridge freezer, with ample amount of space inside for 2 people. The fridge is a sleek silver finish, and looks stylish enough from the outside. One main reason I went for this particular Fridge Freezer is because of the size of the Freezer which is in the bottom half. The net capacity is 85 litres with the fridge having 150 litres, and whilst I didn't really understand just how big this would be when I was looking online, I got a good grasp by comparing it with other fridge freezers and comparing the pictures. The freezer actually has 4 drawers and I am very pleased by how much I can store in the freezer, as the draws are big enough for what I need. In the handle of 2 of the drawers are blue ice trays, which means they don't have to be stored inside the freezer drawer thus saving space. The fridge is also a great size, it contains 3 shelves made from safety glass and 2 salad crisper drawers in the bottom. The door panel also contains 3 shelves, the bottom one has plenty of space for holding bottles of coke and milk. We did view some fridge freezers in the shops which had odd shaped shelves that would not store an upright bottle of coke. The hinge for the door is on the right hand side, which is the side we needed it on but it does have a reversible door if needed.
The appliance runs quietly and doesn't make much of a noise, this wouldn't be a problem anyway as our kitchen is behind a closed door but for anyone with fancy open plan living, noise won't be much of a problem with this one.
It isn't a frost free freezer which doesn't bother me a whole lot, I've seen people with frost free freezers still having problems with frost build up anyway, plus I heard about 'freezer burn' for the first time since researching into these things and settled my mind that having a non frost free freezer isn't all that bad.
I've owned this Fridge Freezer for over a month now and I am very happy with my purchase. I've had plenty of space to store food in both the fridge and freezer, and I've experienced no major problems with the appliance at all. I do have a couple of issues, which are slightly annoying.
Those 2 ice trays tucked away into the handle of each freezer drawer sounded like a great idea and not long after our Fridge Freezer was up and running I decided to fill them up. It might sound silly but I read the instructions about them, as the shape of them is a bit strange and I was sceptical that I'd be able to get the ice out afterwards, however the instructions made it sound easy so I gave it a go. When I came to get the ice out later I was right, it was impossible to get it out! The design of this ice tray is more of a tube. You need to fill the tube up with water and there's little cups all the way along which make the ice cube shape. Somehow once the water has turned into ice you are supposed to be able to bang out these ice cube's through the opening of the tube, except they don't fit through the opening so they just jangle around in there! It's such a silly design flaw that a 5 year old could work out so I can't figure out why they didn't at least test they ice tubes out.
Another slightly annoyance is the fridge door, now I know most fridge doors automatically swing shut but it really annoys me, if I'm only opening the fridge door for a second to grab a few things out, by the time I've placed one thing on the bench and turned round to get the next item, the door's already swung shut on me. I wish there was a way of making it stay open if I want it to, rather than it being hell bent on me being super energy efficient and closing itself.
The freezer door often sticks if I've just opened and closed it, then want to open it again. I have to tug on it to get it to open, and I'm hoping this will pass over time, however it's not too big of a problem.
Despite these few niggles I really like this fridge freezer, it looks smart, it's not too large and it's perfect for my needs. It's spacious enough for me the overall build and design of the appliance is excellent quality.
If you are thinking of buying this fridge freezer I would have a good look around, I used Google's shopping comparison to find the cheapest price, and I would always be wary of delivery prices for websites, as it might seem a bargain at first but the delivery price ends up being considerably higher than other websites! I recommend this fridge freezer as I've had no problems with it, and I'm completely happy with my purchase.
Summary: A reliable fridge freezer, highly recommended.
