Advantages: Easy Access, Low Electric Usage

Disadvantages: Some Internal space wasted

Every home owner should own a deep freezer that is separate from your kitchen refrigerator. Your average home kitchen freezer compartment is about large enough to hold a half gallon of ice cream, a box of peas, a couple of steaks, some French fries, ice cubes, and other odds and ends. A deep freezer can save you money and allow you a wider selection of foods close at hand.

Description
This model is the Sears Kenmore Frost Free Upright Freezer. The internal layout is such that everything is easily accessible to both your sight and to your grasp. When I was searching of a new upright I went through several different brands and one of the few things I was really worried about was the energy rating. I didn?t want to pay excessive
electric bills which would reduce the amount of purchasing savings I could get. It did not make sense to spend $300.00 or more and not get any savings for it. The Kenmore was one of the lowest in electric usage and suited my purposes the best.

Types
Even though this epinion is about the Kenmore Upright model it is necessary to go over a few of the considerations when deciding which type of freezer to purchase.
1. Upright Frost Free
2. Upright Manual Defrost
3. Chest
Each one of these has advantages and disadvantages.

Upright Frost Free
You never have to defrost but this labor savings has a price which is increased electric usage. You can access everything very easily but sometimes it?s hard to pile things up high enough to make the most out of every cubic inch. Sometimes things fall out on the floor if you have piled things incorrectly or too high.

Upright Manual Defrost
Things are easy to see and grasp as with the frost free model but after several months things get freezer locked and are frozen into the growing ice. You have to remove most of your food once or twice a year and defrost the unit which takes about 2 hours, It?s not a bad job in mid July or August when its h
ot outside. An afternoon in the freezer is quite pleasant.

Chest Freezers
Like the upright manual defrost you have the chore of emptying once or twice a year and removing the built up ice. You can put a lot more product in the chest freezer because you don not worry as much about packing. Nothing ever falls out but a lot of times things get buried and forgotten. You could end up throwing away some valuable food just
because you couldn?t see it on the bottom. You have to consciously make sure that you dig down deep every now and then.

Savings
You can get great savings from watching sales at your local supermarkets and warehouse stores. If you can get a sale on chicken for say $.39 a pound and but 4 or 5 meals work at a time and put them is your freezer. The same goes for frozen vegetables that are purchased during sales. Another way to save money is if you can preserve your garden vegetables. This can save a tremendous amount of money and it tastes better that what you buy in the store.

Finally
I had several different choices when I was looking for a freezer but I chose the Kenmore. The reasons were a Nationally known name, a national service network, a dependable unit with a good track record. There was a service agreement available (That?s a different epinion). I am very pleased with this model and recommend it to everyone.
