      A good fridge-freezer at a good price

We've been planning on buying a big fridge-freezer for ages and when the house purchase finally went through that was finally a reality. I did get a bit sad whilst shopping for one as they are very expensive and some require plumbing-in which in our kitchen would be a nightmare. We finally decided on the LG HSYA in brushed steel as the size was perfect for the space and we liked the look of it. Now the next step was finding somewhere that could offer the best purchase price. I was finding £900 plus most places. Finally on a Google search it came up for sale from Sainsbury's at £849, free delivery (unless you pick the day you want delivery and that costs £4.95) and another added bonus was the 1600 odd nectar points. All helps as we saved our Sainsbury's and Tesco points towards days out. According to the site today the price has gone up and the fridge is currently selling at £889.99 (02-03-12) but still cheaper than a lot of places. The delivery guys had to take the doors off to get the fridge through the doorway but I had measured ahead of time and they were prepared for it with no extra charge.

I read a lot of reviews before buying and one complaint was that the brushed steel effect was only on the doors and no along the side of the fridge-freezer. The sides don't show where we have it so I'm not fussed about that and even if a bit did show I'm not sure that I would care as it's still nice and shiny.

The fridge itself is lovely. Before we had a small fridge on top of a small freezer. With the LG we get quite a bit more room in the fridge and two humidity drawers which are great for fruit and veg. These drawers help to keep things from going off before we have a chance to eat them. There is a container in the fridge that you fill with water and that is what feeds the ice compartment and thus no need for plumbing. The water needed topping up a lot at the start whilst the ice was being made but now that it's got a stock of ice the water only gets filled up once a week. I assume I'll be doing it more over the summer but it's hardly a chore. The ice compartment takes up some room in the fridge making a couple shelves half size. I think I have slightly less room than I had in the only pull out drawer freezer but at the same time it's a substantial size and I can still fit everything in.

The ice and water is great to have. I grew up with a fridge like this and loved it. The crushed ice comes out a bit uneven. There will be some big chunks and some small but oh well. My eldest son learnt about ice the hard way. He decided to fill his glass with water and then add ice. I didn't stop him because it was too funny watching him about to get splashed (evil mother!).

works well even when being used by a lot of people regularly

My parents have this refrigerator in their kitchen so I use it a lot and it gets used on a daily basis by a few people. They have had it about 6 months now, and so far it has worked well and we have not run into any problems with it.

The fridge side of it is quite large and an easily fit a weeks worth of food in for a family of about 4. The freezer does not really fit in as much as needed though. We like to buy in bulk and freeze what we don't need and we find this isn't really possible with this freezer and there is only room for food that will be used over that month for example.

Next, it has an ice and water dispenser. This is really just a novelty feature to us and although it gets used very often, its not really a necessity. But it is a nice extra feature to have and it makes keeping ice in soooo much easier. Plus we do always get our water from the dispenser and not the tap as it comes out nice and chilled!

Overall, from when I have seen it in use it does the job and the water and ice dispenser is a nice feature, but it doesn't always hold as much food as we would like.
