Expensive, unreliable and poor quality product

Prior to purchasing this Liebherr refrigerator my wife and I did some quite exhaustive research on the various options at our local stores. This in itself was a grave error as I should have exercised my fingers online as well although from recent researches there is little evidence of reviews in the UK or Ireland but many in the USA.

One enters a world of costs when you purchase a Liebherr refrigerator. When any freezer fails one ends up with food losses and if this happens on a regular basis it becomes expensive. This product was promoted as being of a high build quality and would last twenty years plus without cost. These assertions by the salesman and the product brochures are totally misleading.

This refrigerator iced up on a regular basis and had intermittant temperature control issues. Food placed in the Biofresh drawers did not stay fresh - lettuce became limp and tomatoes became soft. Several interventions were made during the warranty period and afterwards and this is a continuing problem.

One must also consider the build quality. After a few months, the door creaked a lot and occasionally did not seal when the door was closed resulting in the use of the door shelves being restricted. Many adjustments later and the door closing is little different from then. The most inexcusable part of the quality of the build is the plastic used for the attachment of the Biofresh drawer runners, the shelf-ends and the Ice Box door and locking mechanism. The drawer runners became detached because the plastic attachment broke. Two shelves collapsed with little stored on them. The plastic had suffered from fatigue and had cracked through the support connections. The lowest shelf which carried about four litres of juice was the first to break. Even the shelf with a dozen eggs and some cheese had fatigue problems at the shelf ends. Of the four shelves, all the eight ends had visible cracking and would evidently collapse in a relatively short time and required replacement. The door of the ice box snapped at the closure mechanism.

It is clearly evident that the plastic used in this refrigerator is not up to the job and results in a defective product. I am sure that this same plastic material is used in many of the Liebherr refrigerator models.

The attitude of Liebherr is to charge for the replacement of these defective plastic parts. The new ones will ultimately fail for the same reason so one would need to budget for these predictable costs. One might think that our refrigerator may have suffered heavy use - NOT SO. Our family comprises myself, wife and young daughter. I would recommend readers to avoid all Liebherr domestic refrigeration appliances. I shall never purchase their products in the future and can only recommend those seeking a quality home refrigerator to avoid Liebherr lest you suffer the same experiences.
