Advantages: Looks Fantastic, Feature-packed, Value for money
Disadvantages: Poor reliability
A fantastic looking and function-packed fridge freezer but beware of poor reliability. This fridge freezer has everything you could ever want - loads of space, makes ice (crushed or cubed), chills water filtered from the mains and the home-bar (a flap on the front of the fridge) is really handy for getting milk and drinks without having to keep opening the door. I've had one for 3 years now but unfortunately it has not been trouble-free. It supposedly has door alarms that warn you if the doors are not closed properly. However, if the freezer door is only a 1/4 inch open, the door alarm fails to notice and it cost me over £70 worth of food. Last year, it started making strange noises and the fridge stopped working - apparently a design fault meant that the vents inside the fridge have a tendency of icing up over a period of time, eventually cutting off the cooling to the fridge compartment. A Samsung engineer fitted a new circuit as it was a known problem. They may have fixed this in more recent versions. The ice-maker is also notorious for breaking down. Mine failed 2 months ago and apparently costs £300 to replace. The home-bar as I said is one of the most useful features on the fridge freezer, but over time and regular use, the catch doesn't work properly and it doesn't stay shut anymore! It is a really good fridge-freezer, and I would like to think that Samsung have got to grips with the problems of the earlier models, but just bear these things in mind if you are thinking of getting one. If you do, I would recommend you get an extended warranty as the replacement ice-maker cost is not insignificant! Other things to bear in mind is that most average kitchens can't take a fridge-freezer of this size and I ended up choosing my house around the size of the kitchen for the fridge!! It must also stand on a concrete or reinforced floor as it is so heavy when full of food! All this
said, I don't regret buying it and it certainly beats the competition in terms of features and value for money.
