I was very fortunate in that the landlords for the last flat I rented were designers who had previously lived in the flat but were now living out of the country. Because of this, they left behind their Smeg fridge and oven.
Smeg specialise in producing very elegant household appliances and this is no exception. It is tall, slightly imposing and has a brushed steel exterior. The steel does show up fingerprints to some degree, so it depends how house-proud you are as to what to do about this.
The fridge was showing its age by the time we had it. The freezer compartment certainly wasn't frost-free and, more annoyingly, the glass shelves in the upper section were on plastic runners which slotted into grooves in the fridge. Unfortunately, the lip on these runners was less than 5cm long and some snapped with only a moderate load. This required some superglue to fix.
Noise is also a bit of an issue with this: there is a definite hum that can turn into a buzz which comes from the fridge as it cools. It's not loud enough to be distracting as such, but is enough to be annoying!
As you would expect with a fridge at this price, there is a wine rack at the top and veg boxes at the bottom. The cooling in the fridge was even throughout.
