This is a high end brand of electronics manufactured from the US renowned for their stylish, durable and often large goods. This fridge is one of their more famous items and it is iconic in design, stylish and being an American fridge manufacturer... It's BIG.
These come in a variety of colours but we have ours in a fairly traditional black (some of the ranges can get a bit jazzy). Along the top 1/4 of the fridge is the iconic smeg lettering and below, about 2/3 up the equally iconic 50's 'Cadillac' style handle (incidentally, the handle is on the right hand side on this model so it opens right to left, rather than left to right as most UK fridges do). Both feel more like they might be at home on a 50's automobile rather than a household appliance but it's a different feel to the usual white goods - more American diner than greasy spoon. The edges are curved to give it an almost rounded feel despite the fact it is definitely rectangular in shape. This is most apparent with the curvature on the door which is remarkably thick compared to other fridges - I guess this has something to do with keeping things colder and efficiency? The whole fridge probably sits at around a meter and a half in height and is very wide, deep and bulky.
This model is a single door fridge with a small freezer compartment in the top. Due to the depth of the fridge it can hold a fair amount although I have found alot of space as bulk taken up with the shell and was almost disappointed by the amount it holds. That said, it's more than reasonable in size inside. The freezer compartment conversely is very small, probably only around 6 inches in height so storage of anything more than one or 2 smaller items is not possible. It wouldn't fit an entire chicken for example so is really more intended for light use.
The fridge comes equip with ample moveable shelves with numerous height options available. The same applies with the inside door with both utilising easy to slot in place shelves and compartments. This makes cleaning very easy as each compartment or shelf can be removed and cleaned independently and also allows for easy cleaning of the shell. The fridge also includes a rather nifty bottle shelf that can keep about 5 wine bottles on one layer.
It's energy rating is a very impressive A++ so is relatively environmentally friendly... as environmentally friendly as refrigerators get, anyway! Cooling on this fridge is very efficient and it has an easy to use temperature dial not inconveniently located at the back of the fridge where items can knock it to a different temperature, but rather at the front toward the top right hand corner. The freezer also remains very cold so keeps things frozen well.
The interior storage capacity is apparently 222 litres but I would think it holds less than that (not that I've tried!).
Everything about the fridge is very impressive from it's functioning to it's look but you really do pay for what you get. These retail at around £900.00 so far from cheap. If you're looking for something that functions excellently, and you have the space, and want something different from the usual white goods... and you've got a ton of spare cash... then this is the fridge for you!
