Infinity USB Foot Pedal
by jasminetea
Well, it's not merely a lump of plastic, and I hope my review will do something to prove that to you! Truth be told, it's not a very pretty lump of plastic, but its beauty is most definitely on the inside!
It's job is simple and straightforward: To help you transcribe audios and/or videos at your computer/laptop. It comes ... with no software and no other unnecessary bits and pieces to clutter your cupboards with - just the pedal and the usb cable attached to it. Just plug it in to your usb slot and go! Simplez.
I've had my Infinity foot pedal for about two years now. I purchased it new online for around £50 - if you do this remember to check the p&p costs because the pedal weighs a heavy 1.8kg (some sellers include p&p in the price, some don't - potentially adding an extra £5). It is costly, and so you have to be sure that you are going to use it sufficiently and that it will pay its way over time. I think the price is due to it being somewhat of a niche market, and so the manufacturers can really choose their own prices.
In my opinion the weight is necessary in order to prevent it from sliding around too much while you're working. It is a very sturdy thing that has travelled with me abroad, completely unaffected by being thrown around in my suitcase! (If you are also going to use it whilst travelling check you have enough luggage limit because as I mentioned it weighs approx. 1.8kg!)
Perhaps the best feature of this pedal is that it requires no software installation, and so you can use it with any transcription program you wish (you can good free ones to download). This foot pedal has three pedals (I'm not sure of another word for them!), typically the left is for fastforward, the large middle one is for play, and the right one is for rewind. I use Express Scribe Pro, and through that I can adjust the settings of the pedals (such as setting the right pedal to jump back 5 seconds rather than rewind).
Sometimes I do find that the pedal is too thick, and it would be more comfortable on my toes and feet if it were slightly thinner. I've roughly measured it up for you to have more of an idea of what to expect because when I bought it, I didn't see any measurements on the product details!
Approx. Length: 20.5cm
Approx. Width: 13cm
Approx. Thickest Point: 4cm
Approx. Side Pedals thinnest point: 3.5cm
Approx. Middle Pedal thinnest point: 1.5cm
I cannot remember how I used to work through my transcription work using keyboard shortcuts!!
Regarding the "Quick rating" options, please note that installation, picture quality and sound quality are not applicable to this product. Read the complete review |

Canon RC 6
by kayleighmcharris
I recently acquired a new Canon EOS 600D to start me off in DSLR photography, I love taking pictures of portraiture and landscapes which have distinct focus, however to create this focus I have to use either a larger aperture or a slower shutter speed, as I'm on a tight budget and I can't afford a faster lens with a larger aperture I ... have to decrease my shutter speed to suit the aperture I can use. So in basics I need to use a tripod so my hand shakes and movement does not affect the sharpness of the image. I found that even with the tripod my images weren't as sharp as they could be because the movement of pressing the shutter button created a shake. To resolve this problem I decided to purchase a Canon RC 6 remote control.
The product itself is extremely lightweight and only a few millimetres in depth, it feels very plastic and toy like, however this is no reflection on its ability to perform its purpose. The remote is small enough to fit in the palm of my hand and is perfect for transporting from shoot to shoot. The portable size also means that it takes up minimal room in your accessory carry case and allows you to be able to take more accessories on the go.
The purpose of the control is to use wireless infrared to tell the camera when to release the shutter. This enables the camera to not be touched reducing movement and blur in the images being taken. This particular remote has only one button, which means you need to change the settings on your camera before you're able to use it. On my camera, the 600D, you need to go into the self timer settings and select 10seconds timer/remote control; once this setting has been selected you can change your manual settings to the values you want. When everything it set up you simply need to step out of the way (and out of the frame) and point the remote at the camera when you're ready for the picture to be taken, and then press the big button. There's a lot of room to move to as the signal from this remote can reach up to 16 metres away from the camera.
There is a small switch on the back of the remote which allows you to choose whether you want the shutter to release instantly or if you want a 2 second delay. The two second delay is great for group photos as it gives you a chance to hide the remote control and create the perfect picture.
One downside to this remote that I can think of would be the positioning of it. You have to aim the remote at a little red light at the front of the camera, this means that if you do not want to be in the shot it makes it very awkward for you to be able to get the infrared signal to reach the camera, however it is possible.
To buy this product as Jessops, (where I purchased mine) it will cost you £22, very costly for such a small piece of equipment, but all camera equipment is expensive these days! A small fee if you have the same problem that I had and can't afford a better lens. I recommend this product to all budding photographers because you really can notice a difference in the images you take with this remote, sharper, better focus and enables more creativity! Sky Plus + HD Remote control
by jlaker1992
We have had sky plus HD for quite a while now, we also have sky mulitroom and magic eyes throughout the house! We can pretty much change the channel in most rooms with a Tv, this means we have a few of these dotted around. They are very useful and are now much more stylish than the old sky tv remotes which are now not useful as you dont ... have the correct functions on them. These are important now to access everything on your tv box. I will now go into more detail on these.
Price:
These can be very expensive in some high street stores. I have seen them for as much as £20 in places like curry's. We bought 3 online from amazon and they were £8.99 on sale. I have just had a quick look online and you can get them for £6.50 but that doesn't include delivery charges. They can be expensive so have a look around, they have decreased in price though because they were very expensive when they first came out. SHOP AROUND :)
Functions/My opinions:
They have the usual coloured buttons which do specific options on your sky box. The difference with this remote to the older ones is that it has the Sky Plus features of being able to pause and rewind live tele, you have a large pause/play button. The rewind button is to the left of this and the fast forward button is to the right. You then have a stop and a record button below that. All of these features are in the same area which makes it useful. The normal number buttons are along the bottom. At the top there is a TV button, Sky button and an off and on button which is used to turn the actual sky box off after use. There are then the options to enter the tv guide, box office, services and interactive. Its such an easy remote to use and all of the buttons are nicely spaced apart and it is designed nicely. It is larger at the top, comes in at the middle and then gets a bit wider at the bottom. It is very easy to hold and grip and the chances of you dropping it are small as its gripable! (if thats a word?)
Durability:
Our first one has been around for over a year and looks pretty much new, it has been used everyday and survived being thrown around our living room. I have dropped it many times and spilt lots of drinks over it and it seems to have stood the test of time. The battery life is also good, I have never had to change the batteries in any of them. They are also very responsive and you can be quite far away from the television to get them to work.
overall:
These are useful and a must have if you have sky plus! I have tried cheap imitations of these and they dont work aswell. They break apart and stop working after a while, they also are not as responsive and do not work from too far back from the tele. I really like the design of these and I would have to say that this is the best looking remote out of all the random various remotes in the living room. They have styled it nicely. The only negative I have is the price that they want to charge for these, I don't belive they would cost too much to create, yet they have a high recommended retail price! I would say that you should invest in these if you need a new sky plus remote and do not try cheaper copies as you will only be dissapointed and go back to the genuine sky remotes in the end!
This remote gets 4 stars from me as they work well, they have good features and look stylish. The reason it loses a star is the fact that they cost too much! I wish they would lower the prices.
Thanks for reading my review, I hope it helped you out.
Josh
