Apple Remote
by KSagar This remote resembles the old style iPod nano, the one with the scroll wheel. They look extremely similar. As well as being functional this remote is also very stylish, not only does it look like an iPod nano, but it is also made of a uni-body aluminium, this makes it strong sturdy and light, not to mention that is will match perfectly ... with iMacs and Macbook Pro's. Not only will this look aesthetically pleasing but it also makes you look professional and serious. The battery compartment is hidden away at the bottom of the remote and takes the "flat" style batteries. It still has the same buttons that the old ones did, it has the arrows, the select button the menu key, which takes you into front row and the play pause button. This is great for watching movies on as it saves you from having to get up to rewind or forward it, it is also great if you play music from your device as it controls the volume of your device. However, although the arrow buttons may look like a scroll wheel, be warned it is not touch sensitive and therefore will not move up or down if you run your finger on it, you must physically press the buttons in order for it to work. Although I am surprised that they have not made it touch sensitive, considering that there is a lot of empty space at the bottom of the remote. Over all I feel that it is a great remote for home use however not good for presentations as it is tall and thin and therefore can feel uncomfortable in the hand. As far as comfort goes I personally think that the old white remote is better. It would also be nice if there was some more functionality, as there are apps such as "G-Mote" on the android phones that let you access your iTunes library and control your whole mac i.e use the touch screen on your phone as a trackpad and use the keyboard on the phone to type. I think that with apps such as these this remote becomes useless and is specifically for presentation giving for business users. Read the complete review |

Apple Remote
by edwardjmarsh I noticed after purchasing my Macbook Pro a few years ago that there is the option of using an infrared remote with the computer. I looked into this idea a little more and was really shocked at how much these remotes used to retail for. For this reason I had a browse on eBay and managed to win one of these remotes for under ... £10! The remote is looks very neat with a menu button and a selection button wheel similar to that found on the iPod Shuffle. The remote also runs on a cell battery which can be replaced through a small cover in the bottom. The first time I used this remote I was amazed to discover that no setup was required. The product worked straight out of the box. ~ Usage ~ The remote usage, just like the design is extremely simple. To use the remote simply press the menu button and an attractive media player will open on your laptop. The menu allows you to select music, videos, play a DVD, browse photos and much more. Another great feature is the volume control which allows you to control the computers main volume without being next to your computer. I have found this remote brilliant when I want to watch a DVD on my laptop at university whilst lying on my bed. I can put my laptop on the side and operate everything from a distance! ~ Verdict ~ This product is very simple but does the job perfectly. One thing that would make this product a little better would be the option of being able to use the remote to operate the mouse for example on the desktop. I believe now however that there are products on the market which use bluetooth, which could be better. I am not sure whether this remote is compatible with the new Macbooks. I do know however that there is a new remote on the market for the newer models. All in all a superb product - Just check it's compatible first! Read the complete review |

Apple Remote
by slender_toned The Apple Remote is quite a simple little gadget that comes with most Apple Macs nowadays including the Apple iMac and Mac Mini. It is used to control Front Row - a feature on the Mac that enables you to browse and watch or listen to media. The remote works via infa-red and enables you to wirelessly control your media, which is ideal for ... movies for example, or even music at a party. It's quite a useless object if you don't use Front Row much, but for those who have a good size screen and like to watch movies in bed, this remote will come in very handy. I have once used my remote to control music at a sort of party, but it's not really that practical if the room is quite small anyway. The remote is white with a black infa-red cover at the front. There is a wheel on the top face, giving it a similar look to the iPod. This has volume control and the ability to skip songs on the outer wheel and a play/pause button in the centre. Just below is a menu button, which is used to go back and reach the menus. You use the wheel to scroll through the menus too. The whole Front Row feature is quite good and has a nice feel to it. The remote is very light and quite small and cute. It's quite a useless little object, but makes a nice addition to your Mac setup. I definitely would not recommend actually buying one unless you will make use of it, despite the fact it isn't that expensive at around £9 on Amazon.co.uk. Thanks for reading! :) Read the complete review |

17 reviews Remote control - infrared - If you connect your iPod to a home stereo, powered speakers or TV set, the Apple Remote lets you experience your songs, slideshows and more from across the room. Just plug your iPod into the Universal Dock and choose a playlist, slideshow or video... |
