I got my first Apple Remote with my purchase of the Apple TV. The remote is essential for using the Apple TV as there are no buttons on the box itself. It can also be used to control macbooks, imacs and ipods, while mine was included with a product they are available on Amazon for around £12 or from the Apple Store itself for £15, I feel this is pretty good value, as they do last a long time. The Apple remote comes with a small range of Macs such as the Mac Mini, but is usually not included with the range of laptops including the Macbook and Macbook Air. The Apple Remote first started coming packaged as a standard option with the last of the iMac G5 computers and was initially used to control Front Row. This proved to be a really clever idea, unlike the Microsoft Media Centre remotes of the time it had only six buttons rather than 30 or more.
