Ideal lazy persons computer gadget (Cyberlink Infrared Remote Control)
Member Name: crazyboi1
Advantages: Cheap easy and simple Disadvantages: Reduced functionality with XP
This remote is the best windows remote I have come across, This remote made by cyber link is the only one I have found that works with XP home and pro. Microsoft themselves produce a remote but this will only work with windows media centre. The cyber link remote cost me just short of a tenner but is now available for even less from places like Ebuyer. The only requirements it has is a copy of cyber link power DVD. It comes with a USB receiver with about 0.5m of cable which you plug in a spare USB port and form then on it ready to receive. Because there's no software or drivers it's a simple install, which doesn't slow down the computer or lead to reliability problems. Then all you need to do is insert the batteries into the remote mine were provided, and your away. I use my remote with windows media player and it allows all the functions you would expect including play pause stop and rewind. The remote has a lot of buttons on some of which don't function with media centre but most do. If your familiar with the windows interface then you can navigate around folders and pictures but this takes some skill. The remote also has a button to put the system in standby. It's very sturdy and well built and doesn't eat batteries (mine have lasted for a year) Summary: The ideal lazy persons gadget
