I always wanted a remote, which can control all of my electronic gadgets easily, in short words I was looking for a universal remote. And while I was searching the Internet, I found an awesome universal remote from Logitech called "Harmony 880 Advanced Universal Remote".
I bought it right after that, and I was pretty much surprised to see that how a single remote can operate all of my gadgets starting from my DVD player, my LCD TV, my PC, also few games supports this remote too. I just have to choose what I want to do on the onboard LCD screen of the remote and my work is done within a flick of a second. Even now I can control my fan, and light system too with this universal remote after upgrading its software. The design of this remote is pretty cool too, and it has all of the functions, which helps us to control our electronical gadgets easily. For me it is an ultimate gadget to own, it has really helped me to do my works easily. The battery life is good too, and it is easily chargeable by the help of its authentic charging system. "Harmony 880 Advanced Universal Remote" is the best universal remote in the world. I just love to use it all the time.
I bought this remote 2 years ago for my partner who "really needed it!" I thought as a treat I would buy it for him but warned him that he coudlnt expect me to be able to use it as it looked like there was a million buttons (ok slight exaggeration a few buttons!)
It's got rechargable batteries and charging station, so no more having to buy loads of batteries for your control. The batteries also last quite long in them but I also put my one back on the charging station at the end of the night. It does come up with a warning when the batteries are getting low and will prompt you to put on charging station.
To set up the remote control you plug it into your computer and install the software which connects to internet, you then tell it what make and model all your devices are (for instance your tv) and it downloads controls for them. It does up to 16 different devices so you can control most electrical items in your house. We use the remote mainly in bedroom for the TV, dvd player, surround sound, Archos and the lights. If cant find controls online it can learn them if you have original remote for that device, I have not had to do this for any of my devices so unable to tell you how this works but it does have full instructions enclosed to talk you through this.
You can also programme a serious of controls on the one button like switch on dvd player, switch lights on and off or dim them (if you have the correct light switch). After buying this we did go out and buy a couple of dimmer switches, one for bedroom and one for sitting room, it does work great for these as well as all our other devices in the house. Its great not having hundreds of remotes lying around the house.
It has a small screen that has a picture the name of the devices you have installed into it. Then next to each of them there is a button to press so you are controlling the correct device. I will stress that this isn't touch screen.
I bought this in Comet For £189.99 but you can buy it on Amazon for £96.11. I didn't think it was really worth the money but the more I use it I do feel that it was worth the money.
Even I managed to learn very quickly how to use the remote. The buttons are easy to press and simple to navigate. Great remote control. There has been a couple of times that the control has re-booted itself for no reasons but apart from that I have had no problems with it at all
