Very good for using media centre from the distance.

We got this remote a couple of years ago for use with windows media player and it has been very good. The remote was reasonably priced and cost around £15 online at the time and also came with batteries, which last very well.

The remote works very well from a quite a distance away and has some good features. Some good things about this remote are that it supports all standby modes on the computer to enable switching on and off via the remote when the computer is in standby, unfortunately it doesn't work when the computer is fully shutdown. The remote uses USB and is supported directly under windows XP, Vista and 7. It also has two IR Blaster connectors that allow it to control other devices but I have not used this myself.

The remote looks nice with the buttons being well spaced out and having an easy lay out that is both easy to use for left and right handed people. It is a nice size and also nicely weighted. Another nice thing about this remote is that all the standard function buttons glow in the dark.

As well as al the buttons pictured our also has teletext / macro buttons.

The receiver has a good length cable so can be easily placed anywhere. It also has a red led so you can see when the remote is working and make sure the signal is received. The rubber feet are not very sticky so I have found the receiver can slide around a bit at times.

This remote can also be used on an xbox 360.

The remote has held up well over the past two years without showing any signs of wear despite its regular use.

A great remote for Media Center

I got a Microsoft Media Center remote about two years back and I've been using it since Windows XP Media Center and it's a great remote. You get the Remote and two AA batteries that I've only had to change three times! With an IR receiver that's USB.
This remote controls Windows Media Center and i use it just about every day when i watch TV on my PC and means I can open Windows Media Center and pick channel's from the comfort of my own bed and it did come in great use after a operation on my knee leaving me stuck in bed for weeks while recovering and it saved me a lot of Hassel and it never let me down so far in the two years I've been using it. I'm now running Windows 7 and it works great with Windows 7 Meda Center and it also worked on Windows Vista also. The remote as a Windows Media Center button that will start up Media Center for you and you can navigate with the arrow keys of the remote there are also shortcut keys like Recorded TV Guide Live TV and DVD menu. This is a very robust remote and I'm sure I'll be using this for another two years unless Microsoft comes out would an updated remote. Highly recommend

Couldnt recommend it enough for entertainment setups

I purchased this for in conjunction with my custom built media centre PC which I use in the living room of my flat. After having it for a few months I must say it is a must have for anyone who is using any kind of media / entertainment centre.

The first thing you notice when you recieve the item is that the reciever is massive! Its not too great a problem thogh, since you can easily hide it in a conspicous place where it will go unnoticed. The actual remote itself is very good, with backlit numbers and a whole hoard of functionality.

I use the remote with Windows Vista Media Centre ( I think thats what it was designed for), and it makes using it an absolute dream, its so reliable and useful, I couldt live without it now. I think it also works with other media centre software, but I'm not sure if there are any compatibility issues.

      Excelent product!

      Introduction
      ##########

This remote control came with my computer package setup with Windows Media Centre Edition. If you have the Media Centre Edition on your PC but it didn't come with this remote control, don't despair; you can purchase the remote and the receiver separately and install it.

      Who Is This For?
      ##############

This is for users of Windows Media Centre Edition computers. It will allow you to work mouse free from 20 feet away.

You can control your PC via the menu system and also pause, play, and even record TV onto your hard drive with this (you have to have a TV tuner installed for these features). You can manage your music, shuffle through tracks, play, pause and even record from radio channels. It's like your digital hub. That's what I really enjoy about it. I have my PC in my living room and use it connected upto my main TV and this is indeed the main hub of our family entertainment. We browse through family photographs, listen to music watch movies; things we wouldn't normally do sitting in front of the computer.

      The Remote
      ##########

Looks and will fit in with any other remotes you may have in your living room with a slick backlit button keypad.

It has all the buttons you will need; at the top you have your video controls, the usual play, record, stop, and pause, skip forward, and skip backwards. Your volume controls, and the channel controls.

      Requirements
      ############

Computer with Windows Media Centre Edition
      2 x AA batteries
      USB Port

      Conclusion
      ##########

You will really be surprised at how much difference this remote will make to your life. It allows you to control absolutely everything from your couch. You can sit around with your family and flick through your family videos and pictures - something we never did before.

An excellent product that will change your life.
