This is a very good piece of hardware for people who really like movies, and want the best quality available. It is 6x and so can cope with any DVD software available on the market, and it shouldn't need upgrading for a good deal of time when more advanced software comes out. Although you can watch the DVD's on your monitor, unless you have a really good, large monitor, that won't be enough, and so a graphics card with TV-OUT capabilities may become a necessity if you would prefer to watch them on your television. Also, my DVD-ROM came complete with the software to run it, which is a DVD program made by ATI. For some strange reason, there is a problem with ATI which means that you can't access certain features such as extra scenes, or specially included documentaries. I have contacted ATI, and they have said that all new DVD-ROM's are coming with upgraded software, so don't let this worry you. Overall, a very good DVD ROM that has all the capabilities to allow you to enjoy your movies.
