I got this for my primary disc drive for my home PC when i built it myself, with the idea of upgrading at a later time to a blu-ray drive. my reasons for choosing this where i liked the simplicity of the design (my tower case is also black so this drive fitted in perfectly, and i liked the lack of branding on the front) and also for the price (£12 new!).
STATS: the stats for this drive are pretty standard it accepts pretty much every disc type you would want to use (CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD+R, DVD+R DL, DVD-R DL). its max burn speeds are 48x for cd and 18x for dvd. The cd burn speeds are pretty much as good as you will get, but you can get drives with faster times for DVD if you want to spend more. personaly though if i am burning something to DVD like back ups etc. i will use a lower burn speed anyway as i find this generally gives a higher quality copy. It connects to the motherboard with a SATA cable giving good data transfer speeds and conects to the PSU with a standard SATA also.
USE: I have found this drive great to use, it runs incredibly quiet and smoothly. I have never had a faulty disc from it or any scratches from playback. All in all it has worked better than i could have hoped for such a budget drive.
