Rather than just give you a run-down on the tape itself I thought I'd give you a quick insight into the exciting world of data backup. This will be a quick 'n' dirty guide to backups. It's by no means a comprehensive overview. I've been doing this stuff for over six years and I'm still learning bits here and there! LTO tapes are the latest in a long line of removable data backup devices, thus meaning that they are A) Faster than their older rivals, and B) more expensive (Naturally). LTO Stands for Linear Tape-Open. And no; I've got no idea what it means either. Bit of an obscure one even for the IT industry there. I suspect it's got something to do ...
