HP Ultrium 2 400GB data cartridges provide twice the speed and twice the capacity of Ultrium 1. The number of tracks on the tape that can be used to store data has been increased from 384 to 512 and higher coercivity means improved linear bit density allowing more data to be stored in the same amount of space. The speed of the tape as it passes through the drive has increased from up to 5.4m/sec to up to 7.5m/sec.
