Advantages: Everything reads and writes to and from them
Disadvantages: none
I use a lot of CD-Rs, DVD-R's and DL DVD-R's with backing up work, folders, projects and archiving data.
Over the last 10 years I have used a variety of CD-R's from the very first 80min ones out in 1998, unbranded gold and silver disks, 90min CD-Rs for those special over burn moments. The good ole days when you had to struggle to get all that data on a CD.
One brand I found extremely useful and reliable through all CD Readers whether a CD Drive was revision 1 1.5 or 2. (essentially very early cd readers couldn;t read cd-rs, then they made improvements and only decent quality branded cd-rs could be read (unbranded couldn't) and then the latest version that can read any type of CD-R)
The brand I found useful was Memorex. They have many varieties out there and it is down to you what you can get for a good price and what you find works well for you. Personally I will recommend these.
I have used old cd burners to write to them at their top speed of 4x, 8x etc and they work great. Ihave used DVD Burners to burn to these at upto 32x and they work fantastic, and I have used a Combi HD DVD burner and DVD burner and CD burner drive to write to these at top speed and they still work fantastic.
I have not met anything to date that could not read from these CD's or write to them.
Well worth buying!!!
