Cheap But Brilliant - What More Dooyoo Need?
Member Name: stufflover
Advantages: easy to use, cheap to buy, good quality, easy to store
Disadvantages: No cases
I recently recieved a DVD burner for use with my computer, and of course this would require me the need for blank DVD discs so I could burn my data onto them. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on them, so I had a good look around before committing to buying some.
I finally settled on buying a load of DVD discs from Tesco supermarket, where I found 50 DVD discs for the great price of £9.97 - this makes it just around 20p a disc!! Total bargain!! I was a little bit worried about the quality of the discs as they were much cheaper than some other brands, but I was willing to take that risk.
The discs comes in a spindle pack, so you can easily open and close the packet as well as store them without risk of dust and scratches whilst they are not in use. Each disc has 4.7GB of data storage on them, which is the same as most other DVD discs you can buy and it seems to be the general amount across the board. I have since found this to be the perfect amount of space on a disc, and I do not think many people will need much higher.
The discs look just the same as normal discs, silver with printed detailing on them, which includes their size, and who made them, as well as what they are. There is also a few lines at the bottom of the disc which you can use to write on with a suitable pen, so you always know which disc contains what data. I always use a Sharpie pen for this purpose and it has never smudged or had any other problems.
I have found the discs simple and easy to use, and I have had no problems with them at all. I have burnt many a DVD now, and I will continue to use these in the future. I will happily buy another pack of these from Tesco when this lot run out, and even if there is a slight increase in the price, they will be great value for money still.
The only downside is that you may have to find different ways to store and protect the DVD once burnt if you want to keep your new and used discs seperate, but this can easily be fixed with a quick trip to Poundland for some paper CD/DVD sleeves, which is what I have done.
You can buy these discs in most Tesco stores, but not in the smaller ones like Tesco Express or Petrol Stations. As I said before they are just £9.97 for a pack of 50 DVD discs, and you can also buy them on the Tesco website, but you will have to pay delivery, so this is only worth doing if you are buying your usual groceries online at the same time.
I am very happy with these discs and I recommend them to anyone who is looking for a cheap and cost effective way to burn data to DVDs. 5 out of 5 stars from me.
Summary: A great way to store data onto DVD
