Advantages: Can copy a full DVD including extras and menus without loss of quality
Disadvantages: Dual Layer DVD drive required
These dual layer discs come in their own jewel cases thus preventing any damage to the discs.
Now dual layer is a great advance over the normal single layer in the fact that you can store almost twice as much information on a dual layer disc as opposed to the single layer. The normal single DVD usually has a capacity of 4.7GB whereas the Verbatim Dual Layers have a storage capacity of 8.5GB. This fact has its obvious advantages.
Firstly when you purchase a DVD of a film then it is already in a dual layer format. That is how they can put the film plus all those extra features such as directors cuts or out takes, or different languages etc. on to the disc. That's all due to the fact that these films are processed onto dual layer DVD. If they were on single layer normal DVD, then these extra features would not be possible.
So for those of you out there who make back up copies of your favourite DVD films then these are ideal. As you know, when you make a copy of a DVD onto a "normal" 4.7 GB DVD, then one of two things must happen. If you want to preserve the DVD you are copying with all the extra features and menus intact, then you have to drastically reduce the quality of the movie in order to "make space" for all these extra features.
The other alternative is to omit all the features and extras , leaving you with just the film, but is now in decent quality because only the film itself is copied to disc, and on a 4.7 DVD that is usually ample room just for the movie, without any extras.
But here's where these Verbatim DVD dual layer discs come in to action. Using these type of DVD you can now copy and fit the entire film and all the menus on to the disc with no loss of quality due to the large 8.5GB capacity, Please be aware however, that in order to do this your DVD reader or burner must also be Dual Layer compatible.
The Verbatim DVD Dual Layer allows up to 4hours of DVD quality recording and is compatible with most DVD video players.
Summary: Graet discs for those who are serious in copying DVD films without loss of quality
