T-Rex Calcium Plus Reptile Food
Advantages: Crickets love it, provides essential vitamins to your reptiles
I keep reptiles and currently have four leopard geckos and a Bearded Dragon. Any responsible reptile owner will know that in order to keep your reptiles in good health, you also need to look after the live food (crickets, mealworms, super worms etc) which you intend to feed your reptiles.
Gut-loading is a term you will come across quite often if you keep reptiles. As a reptile owner you need to realise that what you put into the live food such as crickets etc is what then goes into your reptiles. So for example, if you are feeding the crickets with fresh fruit and veg as well as multivitamins, all these nutrients will then be passed onto your reptiles when they feed.
This is where the product T-Rex Calcium plus comes in extremely handy.
T-Rex Calcium Plus comes in a plastic container which is white. Around the outside of the container there is a large red sticker which has a picture of an iguana along with all the usual info about the product such as weight, ingredients etc.
Oddly enough, I actually buy my live food online, through eBay where I have found a very reasonable couple who sell a whole array of reptile items. This is also where I buy my T-Rex Calcium Plus and here it costs me £2.65 for a 2oz tub and then a further £1 postage.
About T-Rex Calcium Plus
T-Rex Calcium Plus is full of all the vitamins and minerals that reptiles needs (please note that you will still need to give them additional vitamins as you are unable to guarantee that all the crickets will be gut loaded).
This product comes in small round balls (about the same size as fish food) and the pellets as they are called come in bright colours such as reds, oranges and greens.
How To Feed T-Rex Calcium Plus
When my live food 1st arrives, I always remove it from the container it is sent to me in as crickets can actually eat each other if they live in crowded areas. I remove all the crickets into a larger container where they live until they are fed to my reptiles (which I hate doing as it feels so cruel but necessary to keep my reptiles alive) I always look after the crickets extremely well because as I have said before, this is my reptiles source of nutrition and I believe that if you look after the food, any goodness in them will be transferred to my reptiles.
To feed these T-Rex pellets, I put a small dish in with my crickets and then put a layer of the pellets over the dish. I find it fascinating watching the crickets coming to feed from the dish, you can actually see the crickets picking up the pellets and scuttling off with them to nibble on. These pellets are packed with calcium and various vitamins which are then transferred into my reptiles. This is a great way of getting some nutrients into your reptiles.
Personally I love this product. I think it is a great way to get extra nutrients into your reptiles (your reptiles need these nutrients in order to survive) so it is very important that there are supplied to your reptiles. The other great advantage of these are that it actually helps to keep your crickets alive longer, meaning that you don't have to keep buying new crickets as the ones you have are healthy and will therefore live longer.
It amazes me the amount of people I know that just keep their live food in the tub it arrives in and just leaves them there for however long it takes for all of them to be eaten, they don't feed the crickets or give them any water and then are amazed when they all die. Doing things this way basically means that you are feeding your reptiles empty shells with no nutrients whatsoever.
Another reason I like this product is because I genuinely find it fascinating watching the crickets eating the pellets. The moment I put the pellets onto the dish, you can see them all come running over to come and feed so they obviously like them a lot.
I would recommend this product 100%.
