      A tasteless and tacky restaurant offering slow service and greasy food

      Myself and 4 friends booked a table for the Taste of Oz restaurant for my Partner's birthday. We booked a week in advance for an 8pm table on a Friday evening, but the restaurant had no recollection of our reservation, and so we were made to wait at the crampt bar for 25 minutes for another table to become free. During this time we were offered no apology, and I had to ask to be shown the drinks menu. Once drinks were ordered the service was extremely slow, and the waitress seemed to have no clue about what drinks she was handing around. The food order was taken swiftly, but yet again waiting staff had no clue about what was in the dishes and we had to wait whilst they forwarded our queries to the chef, the waitress also made no effort to hide her annoyance at being asked questions. Our basic starters of breads and olives took 15 minutes to appear, and then our steaks arrived before we had finished, all not cooked to our specification of rare or medium rare, and when we displayed our annoyance we could hear the chefs loudly being rude about our table. The food itself was bland and corners had been cut, cheap tasting ketchup and bought in frozen chips for example. We left swiftly without desserts or coffees after an appalling service which totally ruined my partner's birthday. The place was cheap and brash and I would avoid it at all costs.

      A delightfully unique experience in Norfolk.

      I disagree with the previous review, and must say I have always received attentive and friendly service, particularly on my birthday, and have always thoroughly enjoyed every dish I have been served.
      It is a rarity to find restaurants as diverse and unique as The Taste of Oz in Norfolk, and I would hate to see its reputation tarnished by reviews such as the last one.
      Working in the catering business myself, I know full well the pressure and stress a restaurant can be put under during a busy service, and considering the previous review states they had never been displeased with their previous visits, they have obviously not considered the idea that this service had been a difficult one for the restaurant, and not something thats occurs frequently.
      I would most definately recommend Taste of Oz for its food, service, ambience and atmosphere, as I have never been dissapointed.

      Learn by my mistake and don't spoil your evening by booking here,they don't care.

      I booked a table for two to dine at the Taste of Oz on the 12th June 2009. date. It is a while since we had been there.
      We arrived at the restaurant to sit in the new extension;It felt very cramped. The young waiter was unclear as to where we were sitting. We ordered a starter of breads and olives for two, Rib eye steaks and wine.
      We waited 15 minutes for our starter , our drinks had still not arrived by that time, however these were brought after our starter was served, five minutes into our starter our main course was served I expressed my displeasure at having not finished my starter but was advised by the young waiter that the chef said "It was ready" so he had to serve it. The presentation was appalling the steaks we requested rare and medium rare were both extremely well done, the food appeared to have been shovelled onto the small plate. There was nothing appetising about it. I asked to speak to the manager, 5 minutes later I was told he had been informed and he would speak to the 'chef'. I requested the manager had the courtesy to come and speak personally to me the customer. I eventually relayed my dissatisfaction at the poor service, disgraceful presentation and complete lack of customer care that we had been shown in our half an hour stay. We decided to leave the restaurant. It was 8.30pm and we were hungry and angry that our evening had been thoroughly ruined. It was our fortune to make a call to 'Rare' restaurant in Norwich who invited us to come along.
      I am not sure what has happened to the 'Taste of Oz'. I recall when it first opened and having enjoyed many meals with family and also colleagues, this was a different place altogether I witnessed that evening, the excuse for the poor service I received was 'We are very busy' I am sad to say that this will not continue if others have the same experience my husband and I had.
      I will not recommend nor return to Taste of Oz but perhaps my experiences may be used as reflection, as in this financial climate there are many places who are trying very hard to provide an excellent service.

      I sent this to the restaurant to give them the opportunity to respond, I recieved no reply, I re-sent , 2 weeks later I still have had no response.It is clear that we the customers mean very little to them.

    The custom built extension at The Swan Public House is where you will find The Taste of Oz. It is of a modern design with a light airy feel. The huge exposed bleached beams give it an almost quayside atmosphere!! Our air conditioned restaurant is smoke free, but with easy access to The Swan Inn bar for those that wish to smoke. Disabled access, high chairs and baby changing facilities are available. Contemporary decoration with items collected over a number of years creates the Australian theme in a subtle but stylish way.
