Advantages: Excellent food., Good value.
Disadvantages: None
If you are in Glasgow and you enjoy Greek food then find your way to Antoniou’s Place. This wonderful Greek restaurant is close to the Charing Cross train station, and on the other side of the M8 motorway. There are about a dozen tables, which can probably seat around 60 people. There is a very traditional Greek feel to the restaurant and the atmosphere is very welcoming and relaxing. There is a comprehensive choice on the menu with about a dozen starters and desserts and about two dozen main courses. The prices of the main courses are mostly £5 - £8. On the menu there is a full description of each dish and I think that this is important when you go into a restaurant that you have not been to before. Also for my children who had not been to a Greek restaurant before it allowed them to decide better what they wanted to order. The food is absolutely superb and the portions are certainly large enough that you will not go away hungry. With our meal we had a traditional Cyprus beer, which is like a lager, and this complimented the food very well, although at £2.20 per bottle (half pint) it was a little expensive. The traditional Greek music playing in the background is fine if you really enjoy that type of music, but after a while it did start to sound a bit like a very bad entry for the Eurovision song contest. If you don’t mind eating early then there is a special offer on Sundays – Thursdays between 5.00pm and 6.30pm when you can have a starter and a main course for £4.95. You do not get the choice from the whole menu but there is about six starters and about a dozen main courses and this would certainly be excellent value for money. We had arrived after 7.00pm so unfortunately we were not able to take advantage of this offer. There were advertisements for traditional Greek Plate Smashing evenings, where I think the cost was about £18 per person. I am sure these would be wonderful evenings. <
br>For the four of us we just had a main course with drinks and this came to £35 which I thought was a good price for a most enjoyable evening in a relaxing atmosphere and superb food. I can highly recommend this restaurant.
