In reply to the review written by Liz from Cramlington. All I can say is that she obviously does not appreciate good food. As a good cook myself I am very particular about eating out. I have dined at Aphrodites on many occassions and have even seen in the kitchens and they are so clean I could have eaten off the floor. I have yet to find fault with either the staff or the quality of food. To say that the prices are too high is unbelievable. I don't think she would pay these prices in Newcastle for the same quality. I have never come across such quality or portion size for the prices charged, I feel you get more than your value for money. The Sunday lunch is exceptional. I had relatives from Canada there in September last year, and my cousin has Greek in-laws, and even he said he has never come across such good food or hospitality in any Greek Restaurant outside of Greece. I will certainly continue to visit Aphrodities. Aphrodities certainly score highly in my estimations.

After reading good review about the restaurant I was looking forward to a birthday meal there unfortunately I was not impressed at all. Although the food wasn't horrible it certainly didn't have the Greek influence you would expect and I felt that the prices were far too high for the standard of food. What made it more disappointing was I went out for another meal at a different Turkish/Greek restaurant which is in the centre of Newcastle and the food was twice as good and half the price. For me I will not be dining at aphrodite restaurant again.
After reading a review on your site i thought i would give aphrodite restaruant a try as i like going out with my family and children to try different restaraunts.
We have tried the meze and it was experiance to be believed so many different dishes and great value for money, the children they had pizza's and spagetti and they were happy with that., and also it was a supprise to see that they have my favourite cypriot wine on there list (thisbe).
The staff were extremly friendly and the service was excellent.
The only problem we live in Hexham and atleast every couple of weeks we visit the restaurant now we become regular's and we love the place wish we live abit closure it's just the distance to far but we have no problems with parking outside the restaruant and we always take turns who's going to drive.
Many thanks for your reccomendation

I need to start this review by explaining that this restaurant is a hidden gem and if you didn't know that it was there, you might easily overlook it because of it's location. It is situated in a little retail park alongside a pizza delivery service, a hairdresser and a chemist. It doesn't look much from the outside but it is handy for parking and once you have tried it, you are likely to want to return with your friends!
Aphrodite describe their restaurant in the following way;
"Aphrodite is the perfect place for any occasion, capturing the Mediterranean atmosphere and the Cypriot hospitality. It is the right place to re-live your holiday memories and have a great night out"
From the moment that you step inside, you forget that this restaurant is located in a car park because it really does seem like you are walking into a Greek tavera. The arched ceilings, wall murals and simple but authentic decoration combine well with the bustling and friendly family atmosphere making you feel instantly relaxed. The scents of home cooked ingredients makes your mouth water too, so you find yourself looking enviously at other peoples plates, trying to decide what to order!
There is a wide range of starters on the menu ranging from antipasto, and traditional Greek dishes to deep fried brie or shellfish. There is also an excellent choice of main dishes including pasta, fish, chicken, stifado (highly recommended!), moussaka and dolmades. There is also a choice of vegetarian dishes if you prefer. There is also the meze option which is a great way to try little bits of several dishes, and always delicious. (Check the menu to see when meze nights are held too, where you save money!)
The prices are great value, expect to pay around £5 for a starter and £11 for a main course. There is a link to a menu below which lists meals and prices if you would like to check these before going;
The service is excellent, with the Greek chef/owner often wandering out to check that you have enjoyed your meal, the waiting staff are friendly and available without being overbearing and there is an excellent range of wines, beers and drinks available.
I love this place and the fact that they also do takeaway is fantastic. I frequently eat there or pick up food on the way past and cannot praise it highly enough. If you haven't tried this restaurant yet then please don't delay, whether for a large family gathering or a small intimate meal, this place excels!
