When we go out for a meal we tend to go to the same place most of the time; but back in February, my mum and dad came up to babysit. So my husband and I decided to try somewhere different as it was at least a couple of years since we went out without the girls.
I ummed and arred and asked people at work about the local restaurants and then decided for The Atrium based in the Dalmeney Hotel in St Annes. People said it is really nice and I checked the menu out online.
We entered through the hotel entrance and was directed to the restaurant. As we entered the restaurant there was people stood behind a small bar, we explained we had booked a meal and were shown straight to a table.
We were given menus and soon after asked if we wished to order any drinks, my husband had a lager (which he didn't drink all of it) and I had a lime and soda. The menu had quite a variety such as -
Nibbles like Nachos topped with melted cheese, jalapenos and cool guacamole priced at £3.50 and root vegetable crisps with aioli priced at £2.50.
Breads - different kinds of garlic bread in the price range of £4-£5.
Sides - vegetables and chips ranging from £1-£3.50
Starters like soup, chicken wings and garlic musrooms all under £8
They have salads for around £6
The mains are home made plate pies £8.50, Guinness slow braised lamb shank £16.95 Beer battered cod served with mushy peas and chips £13.95, pasta around £11 and pizza starting at £8.50.
My husband chose Linguini of wild mushroom & fresh truffle at £11.50 and I had the Florentina pizza minus the olives at £10.25 and we had a garlic bread with cheese that was like a pizza.
I have not told all the menu as it can be viewed online. We chose a bottle of red wine which cost about £15. We didn't have any afters but each had an irish coffee and as I don't have sugar in it, it wasn't that great as the cream mixed in. (some people can not make the cream sit on top unless there is sugar in it) So I decided my husband can do a better coffee.
The bill came to about £55.
The restaurant was a little too bright but as it was in the hotel and children were there it was ok. The staff were polite and came back once the meal was served to check everything was ok.
Before your meal you were offered a bread roll with butter which was really nice as I haven't had this offered for many years. The bread was really nice so we decided we would come again with the girls as they would really like it.
My pizza was very filling and as I had a piece of garlic bread I could not finish it (I would guess it was about a 12 inch) my husband finished his meal but there was also some garlic bread left.
The tables were not too close together which I liked so I could not hear other peoples conversations.
The toilets were just out of the restaurant (probably in the hotel part) and were clean and spacious.
There was a cocktail bar above which wasn't open for some reason but there was another bar that was open that had families in (it's a hotel so children are allowed). As we didn't have children with us we decided to go else where after our meal. We was asked how it was and as we weren't staying at the hotel if everything was ok.
We went back with the girls and my mum and dad at the end of March my dad was wittering on about the prices (he wasn't even paying) so I knew he was going to choose the pizza which he did - the pepperoni one. My mum chose the home made plate pie which came in a dish with the pastry seperate and chips and veg. She chose not to eat the pastry as it was puff pastry (my mum is very fussy) the girls had nachos, shared my pizza and the garlic bread (me and my hubby had the same as last time) and I think we may have ordered extra chips. It was plenty plus the youngest loved the bread roll so although we tried to stop her eating it all - we couldn't.
Although the prices might be a little expensive for some we enjoyed it and as we don't eat meat it is nice to get something we really enjoy so we would go back again and probably again as we like good service and good food. Plus if we wanted to stay out later and had the girls with us we could always have theat one drink in the bar with them.
