Advantages: great food, great atmosphere, good prices, even a good location
Disadvantages: none
I went here for a meal last week. I have been to Bar Italia, the sister restaurant a few times, and really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. When I phoned to book for Saturday, they were full, and so booked me a table for Bar Roma instead. There is not much comparison in the two, other than I think that Bar Roma seems bigger. Not sure if it actually is. I had a lovely pizza, and my boyfriend had pasta. The pizza, as in Bar Italia, was lovely. Really nice, genuinely italian tasting pizza. The crust is thin but soft, but not too doughy, and the tomato sauce is lovely, quite herby but if you like that then it is perfect. The cheese on top was the perfect amount, and on a whole, it tastes great. It really makes your mouth water. The pasta was in a tomato and basil sauce, and was lovely. The sauce was really tasty, the prefect mixture. Not too herby, not too tomatoey. And the pasta was cooked just slightly past Al Dente, so it wasn't too hard, but not too soft either. We then got some shots of sambuca, and the waiters gathered round to light them and egged us on, 3,2,1 GO!! The wiaters are all lovely, italian men, all very friendly and typically Italian flirty (am I being steroetypical...?!). They make the whole night a good one. There was a table next to us set for 10. Half way through our meal they came in, and there were 13 of them. Now, I have experienced this in other restaurants, too many people turn up then it is booked for, and the restaurants I have experienced can be very unaccomodating. Went for a chinese once and there were 2 extras, and rather than squeeze them in, they restaurant made them sit at another table at the other side of the restaurant. Just those two. Spoiled the night for them. Anyway, these people came in, and the waiters were more then happy to help. They pulled an extra table round, and fitted them in. Half way through, they brought out a dessert with a sparkle
r in it for the birthday girl, turned down the lights and everyone in the whole restaurant sang happy birthday to her. It was great. What a laugh! The prices are pretty reasonable too, with a meal for two, one starter, two main courses and one dessert to share, and a bottle of wine and four shots of sambuca, coming to £22.35. Very decent prices!! On the whole, very impressed. Definitely will return.
