      A really decent chippy!

The one thing that me and my family all enjoy once a week is a chippy tea. This one isn't very far from where we live and this in recent months has become a firm favourite of ours not just because of how the food tastes but that the pricing and choice is great too, add to that the premises are really clean and tidy at all times! Location: 38 Barras Green Stoke, Coventry Coventry West Midlands CV2 4LY Telephone: 024 7645 1603 Opening times: MONDAY - THURSDAY 11:30 - 2:00pm 4:30 - 10:45pm FRIDAY - SATURDAY 11.30 - 11pm The Place: Ok so lets start off with the basics shall we? Its on the number 6 route through to Coventry City Centre and you can of course come to it on the same bus from the town. Parking is highly limited with no parking for the chippy near by. It is on a main road and not from a major shopping area called Ball Hill and if you want to walk to town from it, it'll take you about half an hour at a leisurely pace to do so. Parking is a big issue here though! The chippy is usually very busy and you always have at least 2 members of staff serving, 3 at night though service is slow and they are in no hurry at all to serve you and get you done and out of there, they just don't know what rushing is! They are not a chatty bunch but they are polite and clean looking and I have noticed that they all keep washing their hands and so on. The food served here is traditional chippy fare, well it is by today standards anyway. Fish and chips will set you back about £4.00, a portion of chips, standard £1.60, large £2.20, a cone is just £1.20 ,a scallop is 40p, a battered or saveloy sausage about £1.40. There is Roe, sausages, plain chicken and then side dishes like mushy peas, gravy, curry sauce all at about £1.20 a time and then kebabs whether they be mixed or plain doner all can come served with salad and on pitta and you can ask for it to be made the way that you want it to, well that goes for any of the food really they really will try to give you what you want. Cans of pop are on sale to at about 60p a can though I haven't seen any childrens meals or meal deals on offer in here to the best of my knowledge. I have had haddock and chips and mushy peas and cod and chips or a doner kebab and often I nip in and grab a couple of scallops and I'm always pleased that my food is freshly cooked and tasty and never too greasy. The take away is always impeccably clean too though I do get fed up at the length of time I have to wait to get served and often fish isn't out so there's a long wait for that although on the upside it is really fresh! All in all though this is a chippy, plenty of variety and large portions are served and its never too greasy and so I think you get excellent value for money. It is wheelchair friendly enough though there isn't a great amount of space in there to be fair but me, I'm more than happy to grab food from here as I haven't had a bad meal from here yet just be aware though if nipping in you may be in for a wee wait as its so, so popular with people who live near by!
