Newest Review: ... easy to find and we got a friendly reception from the staff. The first thing to say is that you wouldn't go there for a quiet and intimate meal. I guess the place can seat a couple of hundred, and when it's really busy the underground setting might feel a bit claustrophobic. The menu has a very Belgian feel to it, (chicken, sausages, mussels etc.) and is varied enough to be interesting. So ... more

We were going down to London to catch a matinee show and needed somewhere central to eat on a late Sunday afternoon. After getting a list of possibilities off the net, we plumped for Belgo Centraal, mainly because of the convenience of its location. We made a booking in advance, but as it turned out, that wasn't really necessary, although I imagine it can get busy at other times. I went to Belgo's many years ago when they had a branch in Ladbroke Grove and had a great time. I think it has closed now. For some unknown reason I did not go to the Covent Garden outlet for ages but finally went again a few weeks and remembered what a great restaurant it is. Belgo's is situated in London in the heart of Covent Garden yards away from Neal's Street and the 7 dials. If you're near (or even if you're not) and have a yearning for Mussels, there is only one place to go in my book... and that's Belgo's. This restaurant is famous for 2 things, which fortunately work very well together. 1. Mussels & 2. A huge selection of exotic beers. It's not ...  Read the complete review

What do you do in those chill-out days between the two great celebrations of Christmas and New Year, assuming you're not working that is? I must admit I always try to avoid working those days myself, keeping enough unused holiday time to book them off. I think my employer has finally got the message that none of our clients are working then so what's the point of us religiously turning up? Of course, there is always the danger of boredom setting in once the “toys” have run their course and all the chocolate have been eaten. The way we always try to avoid this is by having a day out in London and taking in a show. This is my annual surprise to the family. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Belgo Centraal / Noord / Zuid in general: great food, poor service (267 words)

I've tried the Belgo Centraal in Covent Garden and the Bierodrome on Clapham High Street and I still don't really know what to make of Belgo's. On the one hand the food and drink are fantastic. On the other, the service has invariably been poor and the whole experience stressful. But let's start with the good bits. The menu shows Belgo's moules et frites heritage, and includes such wondrous delights as wild boar sausages and 'surf and turf' - lobster with steak. The whole range is full of big, rich, unusual dishes - not all that sophisticated, but well cooked and a little bit different. The beers are amazing. You get a huge beer list ...  Read the complete review
