Bella Italia are a nation wide chain of Italian restaurants and their offering is fairly typical of a chain restaurant, they are a bit more upmarket than your standard Pizza Hut style restaurant as they have a greater range of food options rather than just pizza and pasta however they are alos well done from a top notch Italian restaurant which tends to be family run and so has a bit more soul to it. There are loads in London and we visited one in the Tottenham Court Road area.

I tend to find these corporate chains a bit souless andcertainly that was the feeling I get when eating in a Bella Italia. They used to be called Bella Pasta by the way.

On the plus side the menu is quite extensive with a wide range of pizza, pasta and meat options, I had a paramesan chicken which was perfectly acceptable and hubby had some meat overloaded pizza which was large with a generous amount of toppings. They have a reasonable selection for vegetarians but nothing very original.

We had split a starter so never got to sample the dessert selection as we were both full up and including wine and a tip the meal came to just over the £40 mark which is not too bad but I have had better for less.

The service was very efficient and certainly the staff were very pleasant and helpful, the restaurant was nice and clean as were the toilets which is always a good sign as they seem to get checked quite often according to the list on the wall.

If I want somewhere safe and reliable I would probably go back but to be honest if I want good Italian food then I would not go for a chain unless I want a pizza then Pizza Express is better.
