On yet another hen night, the hen had decided to keep the venue local and Chester was our destination, as two members of our party are currently pregnant we decided to keep it low key but still have good time so we were booked in to Brasserie 10-16 for cocktails and a meal first.
Brasserie 10-16 is located at Brookdale Place in Chester which is a 5 minute walk from the city centre of Chester located just off Frodsham Street and over the canal it is a pleasant walk on a nice summers evening.
If you are driving to the Brasserie you will find direction on the Brasserie 10-16 website or with an online map.
Car Parking is not available at the restaurant, however there is a pay and display car park adjacent to the restaurant and is open until midnight so is ideal if you are looking for somewhere close by to park.
The brasserie is white and red as you approach and looks very modern, located on two levels it certainly stands out.
As we entered the restaurant we were greeted immediately by the manager and the assistant manager (who would be looking after us for the evening) he showed us up to the bar lounge upstairs which was sectioned off from the other diners. It was a haven for us girls to sit and chat and the two large leather sofas were dreamy.
I had a look at the cocktail menu half expecting it to be really pricey but was pleasantly surprise the cocktails were priced at either £3.95 or £4.95 which fell in line with most drink prices in Chester.
I opted for a raspberry bellini which was really refreshing and tasty, whilst we waited for the rest of the party to arrive.
Once all of the party had arrived we were asked if we wanted to have additional drinks in the lounge or move to our table, by this point we had been waiting 40 minutes for the other girls to arrive so we were so hungry we all opted to move to the table.
The table was located next to the bar (good decision by the staff!!) and the modern décor set a relaxed mood with the candle lit tables very nice and definitely a nice touch.
The layout of the restaurant was ideal, plenty of tables and plenty of room, there were a lot of people eating at the brasserie but it was not fully booked, even if it had been it still would have been a comfortable atmosphere.
All of the staff were dressed in black and were warm, welcoming and informal and took plenty of snapshots for us to go in the hen party album.
The day before the hen night I had decided to visit the website and view the menu that was online. Previous restaurants that I have visited have not always been up to date with the menus that they are using in the restaurant being shown online, however this one was bang up to date and I confirmed my choice on the day.
There were several appetisers to choose from including various types of breads and olives ranging from £3.50 up to £3.95. Some of the girls opted for olives and garlic bread, as I was on a diet I decided to stick to my original decision and just opt for the main course however I definitely did not pick the healthiest item on the menu.
Salads were available as a starter or a main course I had been sure that I was going to have the duck salad and was sure that my Slimming World Consultant would approve, however I changed my mind on impulse to allow me to have a treat! The salads ranged from £3.75 for a starter portion and from £7.50 for a main portion but as we were going to be drinking I thought I needed something a little more substantial in my tummy.
There was a wide selection of pasta dishes available and again these could be purchased as a starter or a main course so I opted for the Smoked Chicken Carbonara with peas for my main course as I had been pretty good for the past few weeks and when the dish arrived it was served in a piping hot dish (always something I look for in a restaurant) which kept it warmer for longer. The food was excellent and having heard mixed reviews before the visit I was pleasantly surprised. I was slightly jealous of my Friend K when she opted for the Mushroom Risotto as that looked delicious and was topped of with a thin layer of parmesan it looked so creamy and tasty and she sure did confirm that to me by eating every single bit of it up, just like me with my dish.
There were certainly plenty of dishes to choose from all with a continental offering and the main courses certainly didnt disappoint with chicken, fish and meat dishes to offer a full list can be found on the menu online if you are thinking of visiting.
Main courses ranged from £9.95 to £15.25 and Steaks ranged from £11.95 to £16.95 so these were still reasonably priced for a city centre restaurant.
We didnt opt for desserts as quite frankly we were stuffed but we did get the dessert menu left on the table so I had a quick glance and I have to say I was disappointed there didnt appear to be any desserts that stood out for me and had there been a really tempting dessert on the menu I could have pushed myself to have ordered one but as it was we left without a dessert in site and it was on to continue the drinking.
Locate upstairs the toilets are to the right as you come up the stairs and contain 2 cubicles and two hand basins, the toilets were clean and well stocked they obviously got checked on throughout the evening as they were spotless and were in excellent condition.
There were 10 of us on the hen party and we all paid £20 each towards the bill and this included all of our pre-dinner cocktails and alcoholic drinks during the meal so I though this was a pretty good deal as there was also a tip added in to that for the staff which had been excellent and had enjoyed a bit of conversation with us whilst serving our table.
I would definitely recommend visiting this restaurant if you are in the Chester Area as it is definitely one of the better ones I have been too and what is more they offer great value meal deals including the Monday and Wednesday offer where it is £14.95 per person for a 2 course meal and a bottle of wine each!! Excellent.
I will definitely be returning to this restaurant as the staff, food and atmosphere was excellent and they could not be faulted in any way.
Brasserie 10-16 is located on Brookdale place, opposite the Gorse Stacks Car Park, on the roundabout at the end of Hoole Way. Recent redecoration has resulted in a new, more comfortable look for the restaurant. The menu offers an eclectic range with an emphasis on the freshest ingredients and the creation of exciting flavours. There truly is something for everyone, from simple dishes such as smoked haddock fishcake on wilted spinach with a wholegrain mustard buerre blanc, to the gastronomic delights of whole roast sea bream oven baked with fennel, parsley and tomatoes or chargrilled pork on butter bean puree with spicy chorizo sausage and roast tomatoes.
