Advantages: Low price, no need to tip, free ketchup
Disadvantages: Could seriously damage your health, appalling ambience
Are you the King or just the Joker when you visit Burger King?
Depends what you're looking for of course, but did you know that that interesting "flame-grilled" flavour could be full of potential carcinogens (acrylamides), and the same goes for the french fries. These, by the way have been shown to contain around 35% trans fats, which means a seriously increased risk of diabetes. According to a well-known alternative medicine website eating a typical portion of french fries is more dangerous than smoking a cigarette. On the other hand, the tomato ketchup (Heinz in my local outlet) is a decent source of antioxidants (lycopene), so take plenty.
Well, I guess we all knew that BK's culinary offerings weren't good for our health, so what's the attraction? Getting your food fast, without effort or imagination; eating in a characterless uncomfortable "restaurant" with your chair bolted to the floor, or simply facing a blank wall? Don't these just typify what's gone (going) wrong in today's credit-crunch Britain? Instant pleasure today ... long drawn out misery later, plus a total breakdown in social relationships. Maybe it's time to sell those BK shares too. Don't have any? Then who's been getting the profits!
And have you visited the toilets? They say your toilet seat is cleaner than your chopping board. Hope that's not true at BK!
Summary: If you value your health, think twice.
