Burger King is one of the largest fast food chains in the world, with over 11,000 locations. It was founded in 1954 by two restaurant entrepreneurs, James McLamore and David Edgerton. Since its founding more than 45 years ago, it has grown to become the second largest fast- food chain, outranked only by McDonald's.

First, let's talk about the positive aspects of Burger King food. The sandwiches are large and good tasting especially the sauces which they put inside them. The flame grilled burgers are another delicious product of Burger King, with the addition of a variety of toppings, the result is a tasty product.

Burger King, however, is not without its flaws. Most notable is the nutritional content of its products. Quite frankly, Burger King's fat and calorie levels would make even the most voluptuous junk - food lover have second thoughts about eating here. Compared to the flagship sandwiches at other fast- food restaurants (McDonald's, Wimpy's, etc.), Burger King undoubtedly leads the way in fat and calories.

For example lets take the Whopper with cheese. It has 765 calories(approx.) and 46 grams of fat, placing it well above the competition's burgers. Personally that makes me feel sick and if I'd known before I went there I probably would have chosen somewhere else to eat. So if an early heart attack is on your wish list, then I recommend ordering the Double Whopper with cheese. This large sandwich has a staggering 1024 calories, 71 grams of fat, and 177 milligrams of cholesterol! (filth!!!)

So what dooyoo do if you're looking for low-fat fast - food, well Burger King hasn't got much to offer. The only sandwich item that is really low in calories and fat is the chicken sandwich without the mayonnaise. It has only 365 calories and 7 grams of fat - still quite a lot for a weight - watcher. Another good fat- cutting option is to special- order your Whopper without the cheese or m
ayonnaise. This cuts the calories to 505 and the fat to 19 grams, which isn't too bad. From my experience, I have found that a Whopper without the cheese is still pretty good tasting. However, I would not recommend having a Whopper without the cheese or mayonnaise. It really doesn't taste of much. The mixture of the ketchup and the mayonnaise is one of the things that makes a Whopper taste like a Whopper. If fat elimination is absolutely necessary, then you should try to eliminate both cheese and mayonnaise. Otherwise, at least try to keep the mayonnaise.

Diversity is a major problem at Burger King. The menu offers the usual fast- food items (burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, apple pies, etc.) but that's about it. Burger King really needs to spice up the menu by offering some other type of food. They do offer breakfast, which gives them a little diversity, but breakfast isn't good enough. They need something else. If they want to really compete with McDonald's then they are going to have to do something better. At present it seems as if they're just following in the footsteps of McDonald's.

Burger King's fries are pretty average overall. I have found that the quality of the fries varies greatly from one purchase to another. Sometimes they are too crispy, sometimes they are too greasy. But they are always bland. I recommend passing on the fries and ordering onion rings instead. I have always been satisfied with Burger King's onion rings.

One thing that Burger King pioneered was the idea of a fast - food dining area. It was the first fast - food restaurant to offer a place to eat indoors. Prior to this, one had to either eat outside (gutted if its raining!!!) or take the food home. The dining area is usually well - maintained and some Burger King restaurants offer a playroom area for kids. The staff are friendly and all complaints are dealt with well. They really try to ensure customer satisfaction.

In summary, Burger King is an average fast- food joint, complete with the basic foodstuffs to satisfy your hunger. However, they really need to expand the menu. Somebody needs to notify Burger King management that variety is the spice of life, lacking in diversity of menu options. Anyway the main thing is that the food is great and after my whopper (excuse the expression) I'll be down the gym for months!!!
