Advantages: tasty, quick
Disadvantages: fattening
Cheese gently melting down the side of a perfectly grilled pattie of meat. A crisp leaf of lettuce cradling succulent slices of tomato atop the cheddar. Round slivers of tangy onion spread appetizingly. And above them, pickles drenched in ketchup, mustard and mayo. The Whopper with Cheese is the King of the fast food burger. Living in the States, I've grew up with McDonalds. Indeed, I can remember when they actually counted how many millions of burgers they had sold on the road signs. For a long time it was THE fast food restaurant and was a special treat for us children when our parents decided they weren't in the mood to cook. However, when Burger King came along with its flame-broiled burger, the difference from the Big Mac was immediately apparent. The Whopper doesn't need a "special sauce" (which we all know is simply thousand island dressing) to hide the taste of the meat. I've been brave enough to try a bit of McDonald's burger meat by itself and it was not a tasty experience. That being said, there's nothing like a McDonald's french fry. Of course, now the company is dealing with angry vegans who feel they have been betrayed by the fact that McDonalds uses beef extract in its oil. Even so, I do enjoy their fries more than Burger King's. Burger King is definitely the king of fast food. If you're looking for a perfect, medium rare steak burger, I suggest firing up the barbeque and throwing a homemade pattie on the grill. However, if you're in a hurry and want a quick, tasty (albeit very fattening) meal, head to Burger King.

- 22/08/01 Honestly, I've not been to one British BK, but it sounds like that may be a good thing. Burning isn't a problem over here as much as letting the food "age" for a few hours before giving it out. There's something about brown lettuce that's really unappealing. |

- 22/08/01 I take it you've not seen many British Burger King outlets. I try to visit my local one on staff training days, because the new recruits haven't been taught to burn everything yet... |

- 25/07/01 Wendy's doesn't flame broil like BK does. But heck, they have awesome burgers too, just not quite as good as the whopper with cheese. :) |
