Advantages: good atmosphere, excellent value
Disadvantages: could do with more dishes
Due to various time management disasters last Friday, rather than celebrate my boyfriend's birthday at Quaglino's as planned we ended up entirely accidentally at Chibchas on the Woolwich Road in Greenwich. It's a tapas bar with all the expected accessories (lizards on walls, loud strummy guitar music, Mediterranean-looking waiters), but the food was really rather good. The menu is a little small with perhaps only twenty or thirty dishes in total (bearing in mind this is tapas, that really isn't many!). However the food we ordered was exceptionally good value - nothing was over £5 - and, in general, cooked to perfection. The sweet potato was just the right amount of sweet, and we also had mushrooms with cheese and brandy butter which was divine. I suspected the rice may have come from a packet but at £2 there was no scope for complaint really. Staff were extremely courteous without being overbearing and the restaurant was always full without having people waiting. A really nice atmosphere - I would perhaps recommend it for lunch rather than dinner...
