I have recently found Groupon vouchers and bought this voucher for £29 which meant I could have a two course meal for four people and a glass of wine each- sounded like tremendous value.
I duly booked and 4 of us went for a mid week evening meal, arriving at the restaurant at 7pm.
LOCATION AND FIRST IMPRESSIONS...
The restaurant is situated in Gosforth, close to Newcastle city centre and although we know Gosforth quite well, we drove down the high street from Newcastle without seeing the restaurant. It was only when we turned round and came along the road in the opposite direction that we saw the restaurant because it's right on the corner of the road.
There is a car park close to the restaurant which is free after 6pm, which is lucky because most of the roads are permit holder only.
The entrance itself is quite unprepossessing- just a door with the name over the top and a billboard indicating special offers outside. There is no window and when we entered, we realised it was because the restaurant is up some steep stairs so it really is inaccessible for wheel chair users and would need two people to carry a pushchair up the stairs.
The entrance area features several mirrors which gives the impression that it is less narrow than it is, and there are some nice flowers and paintings. I didn't like the fact that the toilets were right at the top of the stairs and were the first thing we saw before we got into the dining area. Once in the dining area, my impressions of the place started to change considerably. The room is small with tables and chairs dotted around and lots of pictures and vase arrangements featuring twinkling lights. The black and red décor and the size of the place made it really cosy.
As well as a large variety of pizza and pasta dishes, there is a specials board and the a la carte menu features a range of meat and fish dishes, although I didn't notice much for vegetarians. We did actually comment on the size and range of the menu because for the size of the tables and the number of tables, it was a really big and quite varied menu. The menu itself can be seen on the website but all of the meals we saw being served were nicely presented.
One of our party decided to opt out of the starter and go for the dessert instead. One diner chose Formaggio di Capra costing £6.25 which was a warm goat cheese & roasted pepper dish served on toasted bread. I opted for the Bucce di Patate at £ 3.75, which are the potato skins served with garlic mayonnaise; these are my favourites for a starter and so often they are potato wedges but this time they really were the skins, and delicious. The other chosen starter was Capesante & Pancetta cos£6.25 ( Queen Scallops wrapped in Pancetta, and drizzled with balsamic reduction ) All of the starters were served on rectangular shaped white plates and on the starters other than the potato skins there was a decorative pattern of plum sauce to add to the presentation.
For my main course I chose Pollo ai Peperoni costing £11.95 which is chargrilled chicken breast cooked with roast peppers, tomato, garlic and chilli This was served on a large white plate on which the chicken did look a bit lost without the vegetables. The chicken itself was beautifully cooked with a good serving of tomato and was nicely spicy but not overly so. Pollo dello Chef at £10.95 (bread crumbed chicken breast topped with tomato and mozzarella ). This I did have a try of and like my meal, it was a nice tender piece of chicken, nicely cooked and with just the right amount of breadcrumbs- sometimes I find that this dish has too many breadcrumbs. The other two diners chose chicken breats cooked with mushroom white wine and mushrooms, (£10.95) and grilled salmon drizzled with lemon and olive oil at a cost of £11.95. All of the dishes were well presented with artistic drizzles of sauce and were served with seasonal vegetables in separate side dishes.
I just had a coffee and one of our group chose the chocolate fudge cake- a large square piece with vanilla ice cream and was apparently delicious.

I did get a really good deal for the meal at the restaurant, and the extra drinks we bought came to £9, so a two course meal for four a glass of wine each at £38 was excellent!
The food was tasty and well presented and the menu featured a good range of dishes. Service was helpful and the whole place was clean and welcoming.
Inaccessible for wheel chair users and the very steep stairs at the entrance could be offputting.
We had a pleasant evening out.
